My saxo has run its path in my "its great" book. I want somthing else now, i was thinking a 106 GTI or rallye but been swayed a little recently by the civic VTI 1.6 anyone shed some light about the pros and cons about them? any other versions to get?

Cheers

Pros being

-Look good
-Sound fucking amazing with an induction kit and exhaust.
-Go quite well.
-Shit load of mods out there for them.
-Super reliable IF maintained properly.

Cons

-Drink oil as fast as fuel in vtec?
-Got the old no tourqe below vtec gag?
-Insurance is a con they cost a fortune for under 21's

Personally i dont like ek civic's and in oem form the ek4 (uk ek vti) is boring as fuck lad i know had one used to put me to sleep..

EG VTI with breathing mods is about on par with a VTS/GTi with the same mods, so they're not slow, and there's plenty out there for them in terms of modding.

Can be made to look pimp too.

Nice, so is the oil thing and being well maintained why most of them have 100k miles plus?

Was looking into civics myself, the VTI is the poor mans type R :P (EK9 onwards)

Not to be mistaken they are properly quick but what gets me is the insurance is very very overpriced in comparison to similar performance cars. So really its incerdibly bad value for money as much as i love ecivics.

No the uk vti's are 150hp in the ef and 160 after wards.

Its the jdm sir's that are 160 in the ef9 then 170 in the eg/k.

Ive been nerding civic for the last year so im fullly clued up when i get a ef9 next year.

Ah so a few different civics within the vti family?

depends though - i was told that a ek9 civic vti is like 167 standard and with just induction and exhaust will bump it up to 180bhp, imagine trying to get a saxo/106 that fast. Very expensive.

^That.

Bick, I was looking at one last year, and had a little play with one on track, that's how I know how they compare, took one of his mates out in it and he agreed too that they were equal on straights, and mine was a bit quicker in corners. ;)

Cheaper to get a saxo that fast than buy an ek9 most likely tho lol.

As always, it's mainly just a personal taste thing, go see some, have a drive and see what you think

EK9s aren't VTIs, they're Type Rs.

yeh i will do, i like the look of them just as much as a saxo. i know what you mean though for the price and insurance i could get 160bhp saxo or 106.

Mate im still a complete noob on civics and hondas in general theres millions.

There is no ek9 vti, the ek9 is a ek type r, the ek4 is the ek vti..

Civic are by no means super fast as mateys saying above around track they are on par with other hatchbacks like vts's and golfs etc.

if you want to see a nice civic google "ef9 sir" im going to surprise a few people on track in that :A:

Guess that means I can't be more North than Northampton? :(

Having checked Google Maps, I will officially confirm Bournemouth is more South than Southampton.

If you're getting a civic don't even bother with a uk spec VTi in either EG6 or EK4 forms, especially the EK4. IMO it's either a JDM EF9/EG6/EP3 which probably explains why I've owned 2 JDM EG6s but only 1 UK EG6 (which was sold after 3 days).

Pros
Good engine
Fun to drive especially the SiR2 with the LSD Y21
If well looked after will run forever
A good one doesn't drink oil in VTEC unless it's a H22 where you can expect to top up 1L every 1k miles
Cheap to run, I can return over 40mpg in my stock SiR2 on a good motorway run
The EG6 will look good forever
Lots of aftermarket support and tuning possibilities
Nice touches on the JDM models
Able to surprise a few more expensive and powerful cars with a bare minimum of mods and stock
Really comfy rear bench
There's so many more

Cons
RUST, EG6s are prone to car cancer. Look around the rear arches and b-pillars as even the slightest bubble WILL be a lot more on the inside as these cars rust from the insides out. Also if it's a sunroof model check around the sunroof as this area holds water unless it's a glass sunroof.
Noisey in the cabin in the SiR due to lack of sound deadening.
Not the most supportive of seats
The EK4 seats are very hard
Expect to be raped on insurance my SiR2 is group 17 and many places won't touch you till you're 25 as an SiR is an imported car. I can insure scoobys/evos for cheaper
Things will be showing signs of wear as at it's newest it'll be a 15year old car.

Check for SH and if it's an import check for an import document and all Jap service books.

Love civics, tempted to go jap but i love french too much at the moment.

my mates ukdm lsi -

Originally silver. sprayed on his drive cream.

just had a 2.2 prelude engine fitted, just waiting on drive shafts.

should be rather nippy.

imports are abit pricey. a UK EP3 civic type r is cheaper overall to obtain and run surely?

i miss my EP3... just want to hear the VTEC noise again.. :homme:

@tommo87, Im surprised about your insurance i can get a import ef9 or eg6 for a little over 1k but a uk dc2 for me is 1400.

I always found the civic's dirt cheap (once i turnt 21)..

However a jdm dc2 would cost me about £400 less than an m3 so they can fuck off :homme: ... Didnt even bother to get a quote on a ek9.

Tommo87

My insurance is under 1k but it'd be less if I had a UKDM EG6.
