Hello guys just got a quote for a cambelt and water pump change just wondering what you guys think, is it cheap an reasonable or can i get cheaper?


Cost to supply and fit a cambelt Kit (Belt + tensioner) + Water Pump and anti-freeze is as follows.



Cambelt Kit £ 78.40

Water Pump £ 23.50

Antifreeze Long life £ 19.50

Labour £ 120-00

Net Total £ 241.40

VAT @17.5% £ 42.25

Grand Total £ 283.64



Please note we will fit only genuine or OE parts on Cambelt work

Supplied and fitted I wouldn't say thats bad.

Reasonable? I had my old Saxo done with exactly the same spec for £150. And that was by a reputable garage. Shop around, you can definitely get cheaper. That sort of price is still expensive for my Astra..I get quotes of around £220. All OEM/Genuine parts as well.

how long ago was that? times change so do prices? i will also ask around though cheers for your feedback

If you get it done at a garage you'll pay VAT.

So £150 less VAT would barely cover the cost of an oem waterpump, cambelt, idler and tensioner and antifreeze, let alone the labour.

God knows how they did it for that price, I'd be nervous as the the parts they actually replaced for that price. I wouldn't simply replace the cambelt itself, I'd change the other parts too.
