What would you say is a good power to weight ratio in the performance/modified car world?

200bhp/tonne?

In a street car anything above 200/tonne is a nice figure, I know the civic was fun with 225bhp/tonne.

About 3-400+ imo.

200bhp/tonne?
For that you surely be looking at either average power with no weight i.e. Westfield/caterham or average weight with big power i.e. Evo fq400!

I figured an EP3 CTR and Clio 200 are 166/tonne so 200/tonne would be a good realistic, usable amount of power on the road.

theres a MX-5 in Redline that got an estimated 508bhp per tonne now thats a nice figure :)

200p/t plus is what your aiming for.. I know somone had had a scooby running 250p/t and it was defently capable around town.
Edit: anyone know the sums to work it out?

Devide the power by the weight.
Example
100
Bhp in a car that weighs 750 kilo
100/0.750= 133Bhp tonne

anything over 200bhp per tonne is pretty decent on a road car tbh

Mines roughly 180 per tonne, and thats alot of fun on the country roads.

I'm assuming I've lost 50kg (ish) by removing back seats, fitting cobras up front and losing the spare wheel, so do we think 900kg is about right for my vts? If so, and my peak bhp figure a few months back was 164bhp.
So 164 / 0.9 = 182bhp/ton
Happy with that!

I'm currently at 173hp/t in my EG6, no wonder I miss my old civic. I reckon if I hit anything over 200hp/t with full interior I'd be happy.

my vtr's about 110bhp/tonne, my 306 is about 260bhp/tonne and delta is about 240bhp/tonne. I also have an old escort 55 van that we use for the scrap runs, comes in at 46bhp/tonne!! If anyone has driven one of these, you'll know what I'm talking about. Absolutely shocking.

TBH, looking at most modern hatches nowadays, they're usually between 150 and 200bhp/ton standard.
So yeah, 200bhp/ton is probably a good p/w ratio. Although between 150 and 200 isn't necessarily bad. Anything less than 150bhp/ton is probably starting to get a bit on the lardy/underpowered side.

Got to love turbos :D
I aim to get 290bhp/tonne by getting my car to 690kg which is decidedly difficult!
I think anything over 200bhp/tonne is fast and enjoyable for a road car, certainly enough to get you into trouble a lot
