I sold a saxo vtr backbox on ebay last Tuesday 6/7/10 to an ebay buyer. I was paid £26 on the 7th July at 0:09am then I was asked when I would be posting the item. I responded quickly and said I would within the next 2 days. I posted the item on the 9th July.
I checked my paypal after posting and there was a "hold" status on the funds. This was apparently opened on the 7th July at 9:21am! I sent the item by standard parcel (no tracking) as it was so expensive to post!
Today I have had another e-mail from paypal asking me to respond within 10 days with the tracking number etc or the payment will be permanently reversed. This buyer has not contacted me directly only through paypal's website. I think this is just some fraudulant claim this buyer is making just to get out of paying.
What can I do?

yeh I'm kicking myself now :wall: It was almost another £2 on top of the standard postage for tracked delivery. The amount had gone over what they had paid for so I sent it standard. They had already opened a dispute before I had even posted it which is just a tad dodgey.

I never send anything unrecorded anymore. I know 2 people who whenever they receive an item off eBay with unrecorded delivery, they tell eBay they haven't received it!
Absolutely does my head in, i so hope they get caught out.

sadly you cannot prove anything so you are likely to loose out.
Its for your own protection to send recorded.
Royal mail is generally expensive for heavy items. Use Parcel2go or similar for a much better price, better tracking, and more proof of delivery to protect your money.

Yeah although I'm not proud of this story Chip but one day I did catch someone out.
I bought 2GB of RAM off eBay (to which I later realised it was an eBay shop being ran by a 16 year old).
Anyway when I got the RAM I tested it in my PC and it didn't work. The RAM cost me £75. I emailed the guy and said it doesn't work I want a refund. He said find send it back to me and I will send you some new RAM.
Foolishly I sent it to him unrecorded since I thought why should I be out of pocket on returning it. Sure enough he gives me "I didn't receive anything". Which I knew fair well he did.
So Paypal were demanding I showed evidence that I sent it off (This Paypal dispute had been going on for 3 weeks since I had not escalated the dispute).
I had an old IBM laptop laying in my cupboard, so I took some RAM out of there (when I think about it, I could have used anything).
Taped it up in an envelope and sent it off to him first class recorded, then used the tracking number on Paypal and escalated the claim.
About 4 days passed and I got my £75 back through Paypal. Also received a nasty email from the kid, which went roughly like this.
I received your bogus mail, I wouldn't have signed for it but my mum signed for it, I have took a photo and am forwarding this information to the Police, you will be hearing from them soon.
Heard nothing.
Happened about 2 years ago now. His eBay shop has since shut down.
