can you get your head round this? A mountain bike I can understand & I ride one now & then.but,i cant for the life of me understand why someone thats 20years old, etc, or that can legally drive a car ,go about on a BMX. Wher I come from he/she'd be looked at a little strange or laughed at. I'm not puttin anyone down-I just struggle to understand the way someone would think in the 1st place to....."I know what I'll phone my mate thats just finished his work & see if he wants to go out on our BMX's!!"

To be fair to you, it don't go like that haha.. Think it was last May/June I got the BMX out, just because we were broke and no petrol to put in the car, I used to piss about a bit by bunny hopping it onto small walls. Until I fell. Into a car. Yes it hurt.

14th July 2010, 15:25
nothing wrong with getting the bmx into the back off the car and going down the park to bust a few moves, gets better when you get a car tbh can go to different/better skateparks and have more fun. I think you are thinking of all the wee pricks that go about ont he 50 quid special bikes trying pedal wheels and the biggest skid possibly

you either love it or hate it

I dont BMX or nothing, but XC/downhill racing is done by alsorts of age groups right up to like 60 year olds etc, i dont see how BMXing is for younger poeple...what about them ones that get sponsored to do it?

There aint an age limit on a sport or activity, at least i didnt know of a "Tennis, only to be enjoyed by poeple under 30 years old" or

"BMX, only to be sold to poeple under 20 with no car"

:S

Also dont see why a car has to be part of the convo, i know plenty of poeple who dont have a car or BMX and walk everywhere, not everyone has or needs a car and poeple dont have the decission, right BMX or car... hmmm

I fkin hate BMXers btw.

I'm 25 and had a BMX till last month, when I moved home and couldn't be arsed to transport it coz it needed new tyres. I'd have another just for local riding as they're alot more fun to ride than my mountain bike.

It was me who said it was a moronic comment because sorry but it was as you will probably find out by this thread it was... people skate & bmx all throughout their 20's

Im 23 & ride/skate. I have alot of mates late 20's who still bmx/skate.

12/13 year olds do it as a fad then get around and do something else, the older people do it as a hobby & because they enjoy it.

timmythechef

I've rode for 4 years, my main hobby love it can see why it would seem strange but its a massive community now, some areas pick it up more than others. Got loads of mates who all ride between my age (17) and around 25 all normal lads, its a good laugh.

taitypot106
14th July 2010, 17:23
im 19, twenty next month and dont see why its weird, ive went to skate parks and stuff for a couple years now, and round my way theres rarely any 'kids' come to the parks, all at least like 17 or so. i go riding with a couple of my mates, one is 21 the other 23. its awesome, such an adrenaline rush. i mountain bike and stuff aswell. but why someone would have a problem i dont understand.

nappert
14th July 2010, 17:53

fuck off-ur shittin me.
do you guys no got out for a beer wi yer mates?? see who's shaggin who?who wants to be shagged by who?? night-clubbing?? Assuming that you DO,I still cant get my head round it. Even when I lived in London for 18 years from 18 yr old,I never knew anyone in their 20's that would even dream of gettin on a BMX in public. Only crack dealin little hoodies maybe.Whats changed ??
Thats it....I aint gonna say 1 more word on the subject.End of story!!hehe

JonR93
14th July 2010, 17:58
Yeah fair point you raised probably does seem strange lol. Not sure what the relation is with a car lol. Its not as if I ride down the high street doing skids and wheelies getting in everyones way, I go to indoor skateparks, trails all that stuff. I love fixing my bmx, I love fixing cars, I see them quite similar tbh.

It may seem strange to some people that people modify cars originally designed to carry old ladys shopping.

im 22 years old and still skate it is actually a very skilled sport, met some of the most amazing people and seen some of the best things i will ever see by doing so, driving just makes it easier to go to better parks and find better street spots ''clubbing and shagging'' still goes on on the weekend

14th July 2010, 18:13
i'm 20 and ride my bmx still, its fun so why the hell not. Its a social thing, me and my mates all rode bikes whilst growing up, so why stop now just because we are alittle older?

Most people who do these sports are well into there 20's too, cant see why this would be a surprise concidering the worlds best professionals carry on well into the 30's..

wicked-vtr
14th July 2010, 18:21
Im 19 and still ride bmx, alot of people my age and older do round here, most of them are into their cars too. The carpark at my local skatepark is often full of zetec-s's, a3's, vts's ect ect. I think the 2 hobbies go pretty well hand in hand.

I also ride mountian bikes, but with a bmx you can just get on it almost anywhere and have fun, its a pretty social thing too, just sitting down the skatepark with a bbq and a few beers with some good mates, nothing better :D

Of course its not the only thing we do all day every day, clubbing/drinking ect still happens lol.

OP i think 'bmxing' has completely changed from your time. Im 19 and have done bmxing on and off for probably 5 years now.. im not good at all really i just dont have the bollocks to try anything tremendous however I have jumped the biggest set of stairs in coventry on a full suspension bike.

Bmxing now isnt about pulling the biggest wheelie on a chrome raleigh burner, there is much more too it now and it is much more of an adrenaline sport.

I love popping the bmx in the back of the car, going to town or the local trials just doing my own thing with my mates and getting fit at the same time, im using a friends bmx atm because i sold mine to fund some shit for the car, gonna be a 24" hardtail next :)

If more people got involved in sports like this instead of going out drinking every night and sleeping around you'd pay a lot less taxes!

What don't you get? That people have a hobby that you don't, riding a skatepark/trails/street is exhilerhating and pure fun- an sharing that time with like minded friends is perfectly normal.

If you can't see this then I don't know what your looking at. At 43 I'd expect someone to have an ounce of common sense, or at least an understaning of peoples individuality and unique interests that define our chatacters... You come across through your posts as a bit neive/thick.

individuality is a trait that is inbuilt into someone, and comes from birth through adolescence, etc. If you're talking about personality, that would have a bearing on the way you'd act towards others. How the fuck is an interest going to define your character?have you been talking to your more intelligent student pals?

You absolute idiot.

Fair enough using a BMX as transport should stop at like 13 - 15, as any older and you are probably to tall for it to be effective. Most of the people who use bmx's for transport over this age are usually chavs etc.

HOWEVER people of all ages ride bmx, not as transport, but to do tricks etc, like myself. I am 19 and still ride BMX occasionally, i also skateboard and longboard. I am not sure what you cant get your head around. Is it because when you were 19 you didnt have a hobby, or maybe you did but your hobby was something much more boring such as getting pissed etc.

Get your head out your arse and realise that having a good hobby, which is also exercise, should not be throwned upon. That is rediculous.

But, if i had the same mind as you, why at 43, are you driving a 1.1 saxo lol. Has your life really amounted to so little that you are driving a very small engined saxo.

What's age got to do with anything ?

I have a saxo & would like a BMX to .

If your 19 or 43 we are all on here for a bit of banter.

Chill down.

Or I will bust out my ninja turtle suit .

Probably won't fit though

individuality is a trait that is inbuilt into someone, and comes from birth through adolescence, etc. If you're talking about personality, that would have a bearing on the way you'd act towards others. How the fuck is an interest going to define your character?have you been talking to your more intelligent student pals?
dondan, get a fuckin grip ya pap!bit naive or thick??
Surely if I was thick, my spelling would be as shit as yours!!

OH, andTony Hawks is a fuckin SPOILT RICH KNOB!! END OF....!WA WA WA WAAAAAAH!!!

of course interests define character in a way. you are interested in saxos and critisizing people and at 43 which to be honest i think is much more sad than bmxing in your 20's mate..

Nappert I started reading this thread with a bit of respect for you and thinking you were just generally intrigued about the younger generation bmxing

You now seem sour because you have lived a shaded life & are approaching the fossil age. You have tried to re-kindle your youth by buying a shitty saxo & started djing (badly) in probably a very shit bar (probably playing the UKTOP40).

chin up mate, you will be dead soon. x
