bought my iphone *3gs* a week saturday from phones4u

few of my mates have said they can't hear me very clearly when we're on the phone. they say it's crackly

also it will sometimes just randomly cut off mid conversation. i look at the phone and the screen is black. then the white apple logo appears and the phone comes back on. it's as if the phone has randomly rebooted. sometimes it's 5 mins into a conversation, sometimes it's 25 mins. just completely random. done it about 5 times now

what should i do?

think there'll be a 14 or 28 day return policy?

cheers, chris

Well there should be a 28 day returns with all faulty items , take it back to phones for you, problem is its an intermittent fault but most place' are understanding with phones and you should be able to get a new one

Hope this helps
let me know what they say:)

The fault described is common mate soon it will shut off altogether and then u will have to restore it too make it work however asu only just got it I would go back and tell phones4u that theres A problem with it.

Also did u install any apps then this happened or was it like that from the start?

thanks mate, good to know. no idea to be honest. it only crashes when i'm in a call. i was downloading apps within a day of getting the phone but couldn't make any calls for a few days as i was waiting for my old number to be swapped across to o2

if its an IP4 the cutting out is because you held the phone in an un 'apple way'

theres a press release 2mo due as many people are having issues with the ip4 dropping calls like this.

Its to do with the antena shorting.

The black screen during calls is normal it's just the light sensor turns off screen to save battery and that's why I'm waiting at least half a year one there is always problems in the beginning and two the price will come down but a said just take it back or wait for updates to come out I know the rebuilding some software but will be a few weeks yet

read the news and figure out why you should bring it back. This issue has been discovered worldwide on release day.

sorry it's a 3gs not an iphone 4

sounds like it probably is just a software fault. could probably be rectified by loading something onto it myself. just gonna have a nip back to the shop tomorrow though, explain the problems i'm having and go from there

will let u know how i get on

cheers, chris

If you have an apple store local to you, make an appointment to see the iphone genius and they will look at it for you.

if they find a fault they will give you a new one there and then.

just make sure you backup all your data and that it isnt jailbroken.

nipped in phones4u on saturday. he said the switching off sounds like a software fault and the bad reception could be related. he said to do a system restore and a network update, and if that doesn't fix it, ring up today (delivery day) and they'll give me a new one

rang up today, told them it hasn't worked and they've held me one back which i'll be collecting tomorrow :y:

thanks for the posts everyone :)

aye they were good aswell. the guy he rang when i went to collect my new phone tried to say it was an apple issue because i'd plugged it into itunes. even though you HAVE to plug it into itunes before you can even start using it! so he rang someone else who authorised him to do the swap

this new one is definitely faster all round, reception seems better, it doesn't switch off randomly, plus the other one had a few scuffs on it and this one is brand new mint! got a new case for it aswell and a load of screen protectors off ebay so it will be staying mint :D
