Introduced in 2003, the Fabia vRS, while not the first diesel hot hatch, was the first exclusively diesel hot hatch, having no petrol equivalent. The engine is Volkswagen Group's 1.9 litre Pumpe-Düse Turbocharged Direct Injection diesel engine, producing 130 metric horsepower (96 kW) and 310 N·m (230 lb·ft) at 1900 rpm, with a six speed manual gearbox. It was named the "Diesel Car of the Year 2003" in the Scottish Car of the Year Awards. It also falls in a low tax band (Band C) in the UK, further increasing its cost benefits over its (chiefly petrol-powered) counterparts.
Official figures state 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 9.5 seconds, but several motoring magazines and websites have measured faster times (around the 7.0-7.5 seconds range) (Autocar: 7.1 seconds,[1] Auto Express: 8.1 seconds,[2] and FastHatchbacks.com: 8.5 seconds[3]). The in gear acceleration times are 50-70 mph in 5.6 seconds, quicker than BMW's 330i which takes 6.0 seconds. 20-40 mph in 2.4 seconds is as quick as the Lotus Elise 111R. Despite this the Fabia vRS can achieve better than 5.4 L/100 km (52 mpg-imp; 44 mpg-US). If driven carefully some drivers have experienced MPG rates of 65-70 mpg over long periods. The Fabia VRS has a top speed of approximately 130 mph (210 km/h).

My leon shares the same engine which is the 180bhp auq.
Very easy to get more power from the engine but they do eat coil packs and maf sensor's so much so that i have a spare set of coils in the car at all times.
Simple remap see's you with 220bhp.
Octavia's do represent good value for money at the moment that's for sure.

id really advise it, amazing cars. i want something sorta different, quick, highly specced, fairly decent on fuel and just tidy looking with potential for more.
at the end of the day good enough for undercover police good enough for me.
and i will add the ride is completely stunning and handle brilliantly. a perfect compromise imo. ive completely fell in love with them!

mate tell me about it! Feel so much better than them french tinnies dont they.
Well even these 20VT's are capable on a run of about 45 mpg if treated well.
test drive a mint fabia VRS but it was just a bit too slow for me, maybe a different animal after it had been mapped but it really wasnt for me. however 130 (ish.. iirc dont quote me on that lol) bhp standard and 50-60 mpg, can't moan can you :)

I know. The remap potential of a lot of these new VAG engines and other diesel engines pisses me off. They can have increased torque and power, and still have superb economy. A mate of mine moaned to me "oh man my economy was shit I drove like a bastard and it's gone down to 45 mpg.."

Hi mate,
I'm sure I seen your post over on Briskoda - there is a LOT of useful information over there.
Here is a picture of mine...

Awesome cars IMO.
People who don't like them are badge snobs! The 20vT engine is a gem, really tuneable with the correct mods etc. Mine is an '04 plate with 37k on the clock and paid a smidge over £5000 for it which IMO is cheap.
Average MPG around town is 29 - 33mpg depending on what kind of journey it is and traffic etc. Long journies I seen 450 miles from £65 or 360 - 380 miles around town I think.
Insurance is a killer on these, I'm paying £800 Fully Comprehensive at 22 with 5yrs protected NCB, unlimited mods and with a BHP limit of 190bhp.
It's standard at moment, but is having £1500 worth of work doing on it when I get back from holiday. Both Craig and I are taking them to the Nurburgring in September too which will be interesting I'm sure.
Any questions, drop us a PM.
Luke

Luke..that is one seriously stunning example of a Skoda.
It makes me want to get one now lol. The interior looks so solidly built and luxurious to sit in compared to the Mondeo ST 155 I've been thinking about.

They were used as fleet taxis for very good reason. Probably the same reason most if the dodgy taxi companies round our way all use r and s reg beemer 3 series' ;)

They are smart car's and i can imagine can be very fun... Although, as Luke said, there are badge snob's... And i'm not sure if i'm one of them. As i'm not sure i could live with a Skoda key?? Lol.

Cheers mate.
Yes it's very nice interior, although my seats need a serious shampoo! Spending a few hundred on cleaning stuff when I get back from holiday.
Will be at Trax too, but will be on my own stand.

Change it to a VW badge if it bothers you lol!
I really like Skodas, already decided I'm having a MK3 Octavia vRS next with a DSG box.

Details of your new one?
Black, 53 plate on 2004 reg, full Skoda service history, just had cambelt water pump changed 10k miles ago, new contisport tires all round and rear brake pads, 83k miles on clock with 3 owners from new, spare alloy with new tire. Paid a little high imo at £4000 but the engine was so quiet and smooth compared to the others I seen i thought i'd rather pay over the odds than pay for a rebuild lol few little things need sorting though cd changer needs cleaning out, air con needs re-gassing.. you can tell its working just not 'ice' cold and also theres 2 stone chips on one wing and a tiny scratch on the boot. Interior is mint and it drives like new!

nah pretty good and solid on the whole. Diagnostic electrical gremlins, ARB's failing, and waterpump impellers made of cheese seem to be the general.
