Driving my car tonight and just randomly the steering got really heavy as if the power steering had gone. Pulled over had a look under the bonnet was abit of smoke coming from somewhere but couldn't really see where as was dark, coming from the drivers side of the engine bay? Also the battery light came on. Checked the tyres for air and there fine. Theres power steering fluid is fine too.

Cheers.

Smoke from drivers side and the battery light sounds like Alternator?

Is the alternator charging the battery? Lights seem dimmer than usual, harder to start or anything like that?

Couldn't really see as was dark. Manifolds heatwrapped so wouldn't have thought it burn the wires.

Check on shed for posts by adsayer, sure he said somthing about how the manifold heat effects the alterntor wires or somthing. Dunno what the smoke n burning was though.

Jus sell the cunting thing, ive had enough of you moanin about it.

Danny knows the score.

The alternator/ its wiring is really close to the manifold if it's a Raceland.

Does sound like the same sorta symptoms though:

The battery light is controlled by the voltage output, it is only supposed to trigger if the output voltage of the alternator is too low to charge the battery. On single plug ecu cars(winners) this can only be triggered by a failed alternator, lower pulley or belt. On 3 plug cars it uses a 2 pin indicator and more complex system via the ECU. When you fit aftermarket manifolds the electronics in the alternator get fried very easily and quite a lot of people(some on here) have had several replacement alternators on 3 plug ecu cars with aftermarket manifolds.

If not then loom or alternator by reading that. With the amount of water thats boiled into it i wouldnt be surprised if you drowned it earlier! Could explain why the PAS stopped aswell, just not enough power, but then your lights would go dim and slowley die on you, which you aint got..another unexplainable problem for your car!
