Right, my Saxo has been a lot of hassle since I bought it. However I love the little thing so keep fixing it in the hope it'll behave. Its been running great for a month or so until last week when I noticed the engine is making a knocking noise on tick over. Once it gets to about 1,500rpm it goes and the car sounds sweet again. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?? I'm hoping its something simple but with my luck guess it won't be. Just took it out round the block and it drives lovely, apart from that noise. Pulled onto my drive and the tick over was a bit odd, went from 900 down to 500ish then back up a few times before settling back at 900. Please help its driving me mad.:wall:

knocking noise is usually a big end failure is there any oil in it?

yes, its recently had an oil change about 3,000 miles ago. Checked the levels and all is well. I have fitted new rear disks and pads today, took it out to bed them in and no noises? It had been sat for about 2 weeks so not sure if that would make any difference. Going to have a proper look tomorrow with a more mechanically minded mate. Hoping it is just where the oil needed pumping around the system. Gotta drive it about 30 miles tomorrow so see if it does it again. Before I left it sitting on my drive it was fine? Pretty confused but a bit more hopeful its nothing too serious since it seems to have stopped. I did hit the cat on a speed bump last time I drove it so maybe its that? Any more ideas would be appreciated

Had the saxo up on the ramps today. The knocking wasn't coming from the engine but the middle silencer :) Happy days!!! £50 and the problem is solved. Glad it wasn't the big end as mentioned above. Had me worried there mate. The tick over issue has ceased, guessin it was where it was sat for a while. Anyway, I am happy again and so is my saxo.
