View Full Version : Race Tube Fouling on Gear Rod

The centre pipe on the car has started rubbing on one of the gear rods causing the gear stick it vibrate and the car to make a rattling noise. The sound disappears if you push the engine up slightly from underneath when the car is running.

Any idea what it is, there doesn't seem to be excessive play in any of the mounts but I am not 100% sure how much it should move. Just wondering if anyone might know what might be causing this, I am guessing the lower gearbox mount might be knackered, I am replacing this with a Powerflex one which was planned anyway. Could the bolt has broken or something?

if a bolt has broken it should be fairly visible from underneath - get it up on some axle stands and have a look.

Rear lower mount could just be worn

Cheers mate, that's what I thought if the bolt would be broken. I think it is just very warn, as said I have got another on the way so I'll just put that on tomorrow hopefully. The rattling is annoying.

it could be the gear control linkage, it is the one which bolts to the car with 2 bolts, sometime the rubber/plastic ball falls off and makes the linkages rub of the exhaust

Thats what I thought and bought a new one. Turns out old one is a little worn so I will replace it anyway when doing the bush, which hopefully will arrive today.
