i know flames are sort of looked down on at saxperience but by the looks of this video it isnt a chavvy flamer kit it looks like pure flames :| but it must be doing some serious overfuelling?! wonder what backbox that is

Lol I have the 2'' supersprint n it spits flames like it's had a petrol vindaloo the night before! I know it's 'chavvy' tho...
so the qeustion is how do you get flames without a flamer kit. like a friend of mines polo if you rev it to the limiter the blip the accelerater it bangs. the only way i can get my head around why its doin it is if its timed up wrong.
p.s im no chav but i do like the sound of boncing of the limiter with a few pops and bangs

It's to do with cam overlap, a small amount of unburnt petrol goes straight through from the inlet and out the exhaust, and as it hits the exhaust it ignites, which causes the flame.
Bear in mind, not all engines will do it, for example, some VTRs might, some might not. Most 16vs do tend to though. And having a cat will pretty much guarantee you won't get any.

Its not necessarily to do with the cams, though longer duration camshafts will help, but a well developed exhaust will scavenge unburnt fuel and air from the inlet, pulling it through where it ignites in the exhaust.

My rallye pops bangs and flames down to not having a cat and it masssivly over fuels. I dont think its chavvy, if its not a flamer kit. Every one loves the sound of there car popping i dont care what you say lol mine will generally do little pops if you take it to the limiter and blip the throttle, or through gear changes or when the exhaust is red hot
before you all start im the least chavvy person you will ever meet lol
see i want mine to pop and bang when i want it too so i dont always look like a chav ;)
i have a magnex catback system with a piper 41 manifold if i got rid of the center silencer what is the probabilty of it poping and bangin?

Possibly if you had no cat. but dont take out the centre section as you will have no back pressure and lose power.
i have no cat because its in the manifold and that somewhere i dont know lol it was taken off for the 4-1 manifold.
surely the back box will hold enough pressure and will not make it slow or people would keep there cats and not have stright through exhaust.

Did people watch the video of the rx-7 ^^?

you need a couple of boxes on small engined cars like saxos and 106's to keep power. I cut the centre section and cat out my last one and it was slow cause it relied on back pressure.
The cat isnt nessecerily the centre section, mine had a cat, a centre section and a back box as standard, but now just has a centre section and back box. There are still two box sections on my exhaust.
unless you have a turbo you kind of need the boxes

normally aspirated engines work best with high gas velocity. Back pressure is a by-product and is not good. A well designed system does not need to have a centre silencer to make power. Depending on how the boxes are designed they may or may not have an effect depended on whether it is baffled, straight through or stepped internally.

I find v-power helps aswel

Well as a general rule your standard exhaust will be baffled. An uprated design will usually be straight through or stepped. The reason they run a smaller diameter through the silencer is to force gases into the box, to make the silencing more efficient.

Have you been through the tunnels at Manchester airport. If u haven't get down ther aspa. It's the best tunnel to go down for appreciate your exhaust note. Put all ur windows down, pop ur rear windows open. If u got a sunroof open that to. Then floor the fucker straight through. It's awesome mate

woah loads of posts lol
tbf ive got a new mk1 vtr now and ive put my exhaust (magnum supersprint and decat pipe) on and it pops and bangs like no bodys business now ! still no flames though ! would it make a difference if i put my superpsrint 4-2-1 mani on ? or would it make no difference as all as the manifold is already deccated on mk1s ?
