Hi i have recently bought a saxo 1.6vtr 1998 and it drives well apart from the engine is running a bit rough.
It is driving ok but when it idles sometimes its fine and sumtimes its on the verge of cutting out, when im driving it it has a blip were when i first put my foot on the accelorator it has nothing like it misses then it pics up perfect with no missing. To me it seems like i have some shit in the injectors or possiblly the idle control valve could be knackered. This isnt happening all the time but most of the time it does. Another thing to mention is that the breather pipe on top of the rocker cover that is connected to the air intake where the air filter is, is clogged with oil and there are bits of oil in where the air filter is so when i took it off to have a look the butterfly on the inlet manifold part had bits of oil on it.
So one part of me thinks it could be drawing abit of oil in and the injectors could be groggy and the other half of me says it could be on the electical side of things because sometimes it doesnt happen.
I have done an oil change, air filter, spark plugs and flushed it when i changed the oil and filter, so the plugs are new.
Also there is the unit with all the spark plug leads could that be faulty to??

If u need anymore info off me let me know, Just let me know what u think this may be and one more when it does this sort of miss before picking up sometimes i get a little puff of black smoke out the back.

Cheers guys

Noticed aswell it comes on more when up to tempreture, cleaned out idle control valve which was also oily. Which makes me think if this is all oily the injectors mush be in a right mess!!!

maybe your head gaskets got a slight leak.any oil/peanut butter type crap in your water
or coil pack maybe

No the water is all good, i made sure of that. When its cold it runs fine and sometimes it runs fine then it can just turn and go all sputtery and lumpy.

that could still be your coil pack.you know - the thing where the spark plugs connect to

Yeah i took the coil pack of and sprayed some wd40 on them and also noticed that the plug that connects to coil pack of the loom was abit bodged.
Is there a PCV valve on this saxo which could be blocked causing the oil to come up into the air intake??

check your spark plugs and the spacing on them and also check the lambada sensor and for you could always use some carb cleaner on your carb this all could help ... i had this when i got my saxo too but it was a crack on the carb that my problem was
