I'd imagine you'd get alot of sax for that money... and tbh i prefer vts styling to the 316i i think it just looks a bit knackered really. But then, it is a bmw.
VTS, don't touch a BMW unless its the M series or 2.0

bm would drink more fuel and is older.. i could do what my mate did and put a 2.5 in it but thats serious ball ache.. but rwd.. ive been in impreza's that handle worse than a compact.

wouldnt bother with a 316 mate its not even a proper bmw and will be slow as fuck, beemers are very nice but youve got to be looking at 325 for the 6-cyl engine or the very least 320, then youll be laughing. A poxy 1.6 4 cylinder will probably have been thrashed and youll pay over the odds on insurance

Insurance group 11 for a car that does 0-60 in four days seems rediculous

the bmw is prob the safer car but the VTS is the faster car, depends what you want at the end of the day etc mate, but like i said i would go for the VTS :)

My post referring to the insurance group was wrong, the 1.8 is insurance group 11
the 1.6
Engine Size 1596 cc
Cylinders 4
0-60 mph 11.9 s
Power Output 102 bhp
Valves 8
Torque 150 Nm
Top Speed 117 mph
Thats insurance group 10... 12 seconds to 60.. 1.1 speed.. nice!

No no no no no no no no noooo!
Compacts are basically the vaginal belch of BMW's
VTS wins on - Acceleration, Top speed, Looks, and the all important bhp/tonne
BMW wins on...........it's a bmw
This is a saxo site, and all you will hear is VTSFTMFW!!!!!!!!
But if i had 2.5k to spend, i'd buy a 20VT Ibiza Cupra

Been looking on autotrader and I don't fancy any of the bmws for 2.5k. My mate has a nice one but were talking 6k

Ma yi be as bold to ask how you got traders insurance and why its only restricted to 1600? As if you wanted to sell lets say a 2.0 deisel mondeo you wouldnt be abe to move it?

VTS. Or Civic VTi, EG VTi is similar pace to VTS anyway...
As for RWD fun, do 316s have enough power to step the back end out?

I know someone who had one and it was just plain and boring. Plan cloth interior and plain exterior and generally just a lifeless car. If someone give me one I honestly would sell it and keep my 1.1.

There used to be one that passed my village, had a huge alloy spoiler on it and some decals
It was racing a Civic one day think the Civic was a 1.4 or 1.5 against the 316. They went off racing and i was stuck behind a lorry, but once i got past the lorry i kept it pinned and caught them, and i had so much momentum i was ready to overtake them both but a car was coming the other way on the straight we got onto, gutted
This was in my stripped out 1.25 Fiesta LOL, would of been quality them 2 flat out and a little Fiesta goes tootling past both of them
(This was on the Autobahn in Germany by the way)

It's a poor mans BMW and also known as a chav BMW.
When I had my VTS used to have the kids driving there's around thinking they're really up themselves, then try putting their foot down, they really don't move

Id go for the VTS. BMW would win if it was one with a proper engine.
As its been said the 1.6 is just too underpowered for the weight of the car.
