I changed my entire clutch system today along with a new gearbox but now its making a ticking/tappety sound. When ever i press the clutch down the noise disappears but when i dont press the clutch the noise comes back.
I inspected the new clutch release bearing before fitting it and it was free to rotate and had no play so it was fine. The clutch kit i bought was Valeo so its no crappy kit.
Would adjusting (loosening/tightening) my clutch cable help?
Any help??

My clutch release bearing is on its way out as it squeeks a little when the clutch is pressed (usually from when the car's cold) and then the squeek disappears once the clutch is released.

Mines the opposite.....sound goes away when clutch is pressed but comes back when i dont press the clutch.

once fitted did you check it wasnt sliding off the clutch fork as ive seen people put it back in when a clip broken and then it comes off the fork and vibrates and once pressure is put on the bearing the noise will go

Is this a very big problem? whats the long term affects?

Its a reconditioned box...
Im thinking it could be a knackered starter motor pinion not disengaging from the flywheel properly? My starter motor does scream badly when turning over.

i have a new box n clutch (3 months ago), and my starter motor shouts as well mate and just started getting a noise when out of gear, its happened since i fitted a stiffer lower engine mount and people have said it could be fitted upside down so i'm gonna check it out tomorrow

think this is my problem but mine is no where near as loud or bad as that - might clean and grease up my starter motor to see if it helps.

Does anyone know the consequence of a clutch release bearing not seated properly in the clutch fork??
