yeah i must admit ive been looking at them secretly haha, the older ones with smiley face bumper and poppy up headlights,,look ok standard, but you can buy some wide arch extensions that rivet/bolt on for £160 and a little lip spoiler for an extra 40 from intercoolers on ebay..there the same ones fitted to the ph1 white turbo one in fast car mag issue 291 (built not bought)

Well personally i don't know of any mx-5 forums but im sure there will be some about. They are very popular cars and can't say i've heard anything go wrong with them

Here's my old man's MX5 (http://www.mx5modsters.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=52) (the yellow one) ... he's done the entire thing himself using various materials and bits & bobs. Clever sod.

Very likely not to everyone's taste but I'd love an MX5 to go crazy with!!!

That MX5 looks amazing. The rear end reminds me of an Ascari A10.

Like Nicole said, they look shit standard. With a few tasteful mod's they do look nice. Still too girly for me though, with the exception of Yukimura's fathers one.

Mk1's are cool. And the mk2's are ok, they look good with the hard top and some subtle mods.

You will get insulted even though they are a great car. We used to take the piss out of my mate, but his was a jap import with lsd and some cool bits on it. He could drift it well :)

You can get a Greddy bolt on kit for them, I've been considering getting one myself. Like Saxos have the predator diyautotune make a ready to go megasquirt ecu. Best place to start if you want that route is miataturbo.net (miata been the yanks name for it)

My bro has one, in black. Eunos SE import from Japan. Standard MX-5's come with a god-aweful interior, but his one has the tan leather and wooden trim, gearknob, steering wheel etc. Smart.

im using our mk1 mx5 as a daily drive atm, and the driving position is very comfortable. i cant comment on how the comfort of a standard one is because ours is all stiffened up as its a track day car.

Standard compression is supposedly meant to be good for upto 300bhp, just really need to change the clutch about 200 or will start to slip

Brilliant write up done here http://www.miataturbo.net/showthread.php?t=4288

I'm pretty sure the 1600's are better to turbo as they were basically built for a turbo from the factory as they have better cooling so more aspired.

Personally really like them at first everyone's not so keen but with a few simple mods they become a really nice looking motor.

Can be picked up dirt cheap at around a grand on pistonheads, cheap RWD soft top fun what more could you want...there's a good thread on shed motorsport some guy with an mx-5, i shall try and find it.

Does anyone know if you have to keep the rear fogllight, it looks awful.

MiniGibbo
3rd August 2010, 11:26
Yes if it's an import as jdm cars don't have rear fogs.

LOL no, the S2000 is about 237bhp, and the JDM one is about 250bhp

0-60 about 6 secs, will probably pull to about 150mph

book speed on a 1.6 0-60 9.4 top end i thinks around 125ish , which isnt so bad to be honest, about the same as a vtr..but speed isnt everything it just depends on what your looking for in a car, looks or speed

wrong, all parts for the mx5,eunos and miata are all the same part numbers etc, and they do tuning parts in the u.k
