changing the brake fluid on my track vts, few q's

is 5.1 the best to use?

how much would i need to change all of it

how do you do a full fluid change, do you just keep pumping fluid through until it shows clean?

thanks in advance

also just slightly off topic, but dont want to make another thread,

what gearbox oil does a vts use?

I just use dot 4 dude, never used 5. Never had any probs, though some of the track guys swear by 5.

Yeah to change fluid just bleed them in sequence (back right, back left, front right, front left) till clean fluid comes through.

75w80 for the gearbox oil, GSF do Total BV pretty cheap.

It all depends. Could be a bottle could be 2. If you get air in them by letting the reservoir emptying then you will have to start all over again.

Im just after changing a rear axle on a 106, lost a lot of fluid and had to bleed out a lot of air. Id bought a 1litre bottle of fluid and didnt use it all.

According to Haynes the capacities are 0.45L for cars without ABS and 0.36 with.

I have AP racing 5.1 fluid from Demon Tweeks which'll be going into my VTS on Monday for use on track :y:

you need to look at the wet and dry boiling points of the brake fluid rather than whether its dot 4 or dot 5.1. Check out the CL Brakes Fluid (http://www.kamracing.co.uk/index.php/citroen/citroen-saxo/saxo-brakes/brake-fluid/cl-brakes-dot-4-racing-brake-fluid.html) temperature ranges. Great for trackday cars as they are one of the best on the market - especially for the price.

Man up and use a good race-spec dot 4.

That'll outdo most run-of-the-mill dot 5.1 fluids. The Motul Dot 4 one has some very nice numbers!

Yeah the AP 5.1 fluid I have has a dry boiling point of about 265 degrees IIRC. From what I've seen most DOT 4 racing fluids are much higher than that.

I've had this fluid kicking around for ages so I might as well use it, but when it's gone I'll definitely switch to racing DOT 4 I think.

please do get some good brake fluid. mate had a freshly built kit car run into the back of his 106 due to the fluid boiling up and pedal going to the floor with nothing happening. no insurance meant £900 worth of damage to his gti....

that CL stuff is very well priced actually.

gonna put some ok stuff in just to top it up for now while i bed the brakes in and check everything works so im not losing £20s worth of fluid if i have to remve anything.

will get the good stuff one i know it all works fine

is that back right as in when you are looking at the front or rear of the car?

so passenger side or drivers side

Gabbastard

Ah ok, back drivers side, then back passenger.

If you cant remember, do it in order of which ones farthest from the master cylinder first. :)

good thats the way i did it anyway, cheers mate.

think the need some miles putting on em cos the pedal is not the best (expected this) but there doesnt seem to be much bite atm.
