Im sick of my car always shafting me when im not looking, i reckon the trusty germans would keep my ring piece intact for a good few years, and thats what i need, loyalty and trust, especially after my ring piece has been turned inside out so many times, unbelievable how many marbles you can get in an ass like mine.
regards
Ass, oopps, i mean Adz lol

Good luck, they are great cars.
Hopefully you know someone who works in parts at the dealer of the car you get.
Parts and servicing can be pricey.
BMW want £500 per injector when 2 went the other week, and that was with my dad knowing someone in the dealership.

I can comfortibly say out of my group of friends collectively the german owners have the most car problems, mainly VAG. Really don't know where all this german reliability comes from because as far as I can tell it doesn't really exist.
And this isnt old german either, im talking 54plate golfs and 325 beemers.
Well built certainly, but reliablity is something to be desired.

Some major shit in this thread :homme:
Your right.
My mates 325 that keeps shitting propshaft bearings and leaks more oil than what you can put in. Like the differential that exploded all over the A34 in my mates 318 m sport.
Or the two gearboxes my other mates Ibiza cupra 20vt has gone through, and the endless MAF sensors, then the headgasket that went at 60k on his 16v polo CL. Or how about the gearbox on someone elses mk4 golf that cracked.
The only shit in this thread is german tbh and it costs a fortune to fix.
German cars are better than french no end, just the whole german reliabilty hog seems some what a myth to me.
If you want relaibilty it's gonna be jap everytime for me.
And tbh i couldnt care less if some spotty pre-mature teen on a car forum thinks im talking shit.
Just my two pence worth.

A car is as reliable as the owner keeps it IMO. Sure, you get the faults due to age etc, but mainly down to the owner.
Jap all the way though

Also helps to buy a car thats in good condition.
The majority of people who have problems are the ones who have gotten ones with underlying problems.
Yes some German cars are going to be unreliable. But at the end of the day I know 2 people who have cars on 160k+. One is a Clio and has past its mot every year with just about 1 advisory on the rear brakes. The other is a friend with a Golf. He has never had an issue with it. Owned it from new and has taken care of it.
People hark on about French cars breaking and being crap. Look after it, change things when they need it doing, not weeks or months later and Im sure you will have less problems.

Ever thaught you and all your friends drive like cunts and cant maintain a car to save your life?
My unbelievly unreliable german car is on 172k gets thrashed at track days regulary and hasnt gone wrong in al lthe years ive had it :homme:
The fact your "mates" 325 goes threw prop guilbos and "loads of oil" is because he must be letting the clutch out at high revs "trying" to skid..
Sounds to me like a bellend :y:

i'm getting a mk2 golf gti 16v next. cheap, hundreds of spares, beautiful looks and no it probably wont be very reliable being over 20 yrs old. But i'd much rather spend money on a golf and a future classic than on my french shed.

I think the VAG/ anti VAG warriors all need to quieten down a bit.
Cars are cars, they break from time to time, deal with it.
Anyone who thinks any car is genuinely invincible to problems, is a retard.
No matter who the car is made by, there will be ones that seemingly just last and last, and ones that break at every hurdle. It's just luck of the draw. You don't have to be a 'retard' in a car for something to go wrong.
Edit: But it certainly helps, i'd imagine.

What about the people that are slating German cars then? Should they not pipe down aswell?
I know no car is 100% reliable. I also know that German cars are going to break. Its just they do it less often in most cases. But when they do go wrong its generally more expensive.
Last statement made me lol.

I like my audi, vag com is cheap and it allows you to do everything without going near a dealer. So far parts have been silly cheap. I fitted cruise control for sub £60 by buying the stalk off brand new off German ebay and the steering column surround, complete with a reinforced metal bit and some sound deadening was only £22 quid brand new from the dealer. I dread to think how much Citroen would charge for a saxo steering column, bet its more than that!!
Also free MOT at audi for life, they even wash + valet the car and pay for your taxi home from the dealership!

BMW and Merc on the other hand i wouldn't go near!

I put the shafts out of my mates BMW 318, not sure what one it was but was 2002-2004 model?
Shitty underpowered 318 lump with 19" M3 replica wheels, dumped the clutch and stepped on the brake to try and get a burnout going and the shaft twisted in bits

Cheers for the diagnosis jermey kyle, seems you can now psychoanalyze a group of people you've never met across the internet.
Therefore it seems to me you drive like a woman. :homme:
Why don't you just STFU and let me add my own experiances, just because a car is german doesnt make it instantly bombproof and i can bet theres many people who have had bad experiances with so called german quality and have had to fork out a small fortune to put it right.

well its true, most people i know tell me how reliable their vags are, apart from all the problems they have, which they put down to wear and tear, then spend a bomb repairing
overpriced over marketed brainwashing lapped up by some people
that said im looking at an audi a3 as reliability isnt the top of my car check list

This man speaks sense... Vag's are not as reliable as everyone makes out!
Seriously, at my dad's garage they get more german car's in than they do anything else! And everyone who works there refuses to own anything german - as does my bosses son who also owns a garage and get's sick of seeing german car's.
Not to say they can't look nice when modded.

I believe this can be partially put down to the fact that a high percentage of brits own a car of german descent due to the rampant misinformed popularity of said cars.

Yeah it definately is true, overhyped rubbish about reliability, just because they used to be
It's like Pete Dohertys mother saying her son is an angel, "because he used to be"...times change
A3 is a good choice
