hi all a strange one for you i have a knocking noise when driving it comes and goes and seams to get worse longer i drive it is more noticeable at 25-35 mph it gets faster as i speed up and slower when i slow down and any presser applied to the brake and the noise stops all together soon as i come off the brake it comes back this happens when i am driving in a straight line i have had new drive shafts fitted and new pads and disks fitted any help please

sounds like the wheel bearing mate. what side front or rear / nearside or offside, get mechanic to have a look

hi had one look at it he could not tell me he checked everything out and said it was all fine he suggested stripping down the calipers and rebuilding um but he then said he did not think anything was up as they where not leaking it is on drivers side frount

would a wheel bearing not knock when the wheels where turning as soon as i apply the breaks even just a little to slow down the noise stops but when i relese the breaks the noise starts again i would have thought the wheel bearing would make the noise when ever the wheels where turning and not stop when i put a bit of presher on the breaks just have to touch breaks and noise stops or am i wrong

sorry forgot to say its a saxo 1.1 t reg not being moded in any way

To be honest without having a good look at it i wouldn't be able to diagnose the problem on here. I had a similar problem with my old saxo and it turned out to be the wheel bearing.......

Take it to a garage

grab hold of top of wheel with hands and shake towards you

when your driving and turn the steering from side to side if the sound changes then it id definatley a wheel bearing;)

well all sorted not a wheel bearing but the pins and clip for the break pad they had fit new pads but not put in new pins and clip £6 later and all sorted thanks for your help everybody

why should i eat more humble pie than everyone else who said wheel bearing i was simply correcting a spelling mistake i made

ha, all round to sax0gal's for a slice of humble pie! oh??? sorry. I thought you were saying that it IS definitely, a wheel bearing! I get it now - egg on my face etc.:P
