A new gearbox? A few grand.

go scrappy and pick up a 1.1 gearbox for £40-£50 and fit that, much better acceleration and cheaper than new gearbox which would costs over £1,200 from Citroen

/facepalm at the few grand estimate and this comment
will cost around £1000 for a recon box and fitting...i would do the above, if not a 1.1 a second hand vtr box for around £100 and then cheapest fitting you can source
i replaced a vts box for around £220 after i bought it off here and paid a friend to fit

Get a 2nd hand one either on here, on ebay or from a scrappy
Prob pick one up for a few hundred and prob a few hundred to get it fitted....i would guess anyway

2nd hand gearboxes start at about £20+ for a 1.1 around £60+ for a vtr and around £100+ for vts boxes as for fitting you will need a new clutch £90 drive shaft seals £12 and gearbox oil 75w-80 about £10-£20. all these prices depend on were you get your parts from and then add anthing up to four hours labour rates for fitting

lmfao at some of these comments.
if you can change the box yourself you can have it done for less than £50.
just ring around the breakers yards and ask them for a saxo/106 box, ideally the one from the same model sax unless you want or don't mind changing the ratios.
i personally wouldn't pay any more than £80 for a box but they can be picked up for next to nothing.

this is wat i did changed it to a 1.1 gearbox i got off here for £35 and took a day for me to do my first gearbox change and i love the accelaration of a 1.1 box pulls through all the gears much much better

I answered OP's question. How much would a new one cost. Would probably cost that from Citroen. He never said a Used one ;)

i got my 1.1 gearbox for £7. It came off of a 03 plate 1.1 that had a turbo kit. Was really fast at the time.

thats a really cool story.
anyways, everything is only worth what someone is prepared to pay. i wouldn't pay decent money for a second hand ma box. The last one i bought, i paid £60 for.
£80 is the max imo.

For a good condition VTR box look to pay around £80 - £160 wouldnt pay more, maybe lucky and get one cheaper :D
If getting from a breakers try get some warranty on it, i had a saga ages ago and ended up with about 6 gearboxes off them in the end all turned out to be 1.1 boxes not VTS boxes the kernts! Luckly i wasnt sending the old boxes back and sold them on cheap to sax-p members lol

thanks maddison, there is more to the story, however didn't want to drown out the forum about me and my gearbox, had to travel 116 miles to get it up north, was really strange when i got there didn't know what gearbox i wanted, it really was a hard decision but went for the 2nd hand 1.1gearbox, had to get it off me self was a bit of a mission but the bolts were easy enough to come off. Then i came across this turbo, it was ontop of the bonnet of the 1.1, i thought thats how they come these days so i didn't think anything of it. it was nice
