As title says, I want to wash my new car as it's currently filthy! I'm going to do it this weekend or possibly later on in the week.

I just want to know without buying much, if anything, as I'm skint, what's best to use/do to make the car come up nice?

Thanks,

Mike.

I don't know how much of a noob you are to this but anyway..

Remember to give it a good pre-wash to remove most of the dirt before you touch it.. A good blasting with the hose is sufficient if you have nothing else

Go to Tesco's or Halfords or something, and you'll pick up a proper wash mitt and some shampoo, wont cost much

Just give it a good pre-wash to remove any dirt, and then give it a wash with the shampoo/warm water mix, using the wash mitt.. Ideally have another bucket with cold water to rinse the mitt

Also is better to just wash one side or even one panel of the car at a time and then rinse it with the hose.. You're not going into detail so i'd stick with washing one side, then rinse, then do the front and roof, then rinse, then other side, rinse, then do the back then rinse

Give the wheels a good clean with a brush, and you get stuff out of Tesco i think "Daisy" it's called, which you can use on the wheels, it's very cheap

Then get under the bonnet and give the engine a good clean, just a cloth dipped in the shampoo/water mix and then wring the cloth a bit so it isn't dripping

Doesn't sound like much and it's very basic but it will make a huge difference if the car is manky

Pretty sound advice if you're on a budget.

Tesco Daisy APC works a treat for your wheels if you don't have a dedicated wheel cleaner and also it can be used elsewhere on the car, when on a budget.

Only thing I would add is some protection in either the form of a good sealant or a wax.

Thanks lads.

I've got alot of AutoGlym stuff and a wash mitt, etc...

I can't use a hose being in the North West, we have that stupid ban! :wall:

Will buckets of water be sufficient instead of the hose? Like throw the water over the car?

Yer, didnt know that the bloody ban was still on. i washed my car last night and used the hose big time. i did it at work and my boss had a word with me about it this mo0rning! lol

i was like "What? but its been raining for 3 weeks solid... its manchester summer time!"

its a joke!

oh and i did mine last night, i went to halfords and they have a 9 piece Turtle Wax bucket set, which includes wash n wax, hard shell wax, alloy cleaner, a sponge, leather, polish cloth, alloy brush and ofcourse the bucket.

that was £12. pretty good, considering it was buy one get one free!

Turtle wax isnt the best. but its better than fuck all.

I'm looking for about £60 as they have tyres with decent tread too.
