Right i drove my saxo the other night to my friends i noticed the battery light was flashing in high revs, i was there 5 mins and jumped back in and the car wouldnt start

Car was making a tapping noise under the bonnet and all the dashboard lights were flickering

Greenflag came out tested my battery and sed its really low power in it, he then looked at the alternator and sed its got a really strong belt etc but i should take it to the garage to be checked.

Any ideas wot it could be???

cheers

Alternator not charging properly.

Battery not holding charge.

Didn't greenflag test continuity or resistance between battery and alternator?! It's a basic check that can help pinpoint the problem

does that mean i will ahve to replace both?

if alternator isnt charging battery properly could that just be the connection?

could be alternator,

could be wiring to alternator

could be wiring to starter

could be the nuts come loose on the alternator

could be the nuts come loose on the starter

could be a break between starter and battery

you need a multimeter and some commonsense to check the above - greenflag should have done that

i had a problem similar to this and a garage told me that it was the multi function relay (what ever that is), anyway it is under your ecu and is a small brown box, i got one from a scrappy for £5 but they are £43 from Citroen. hope you get it sorted fella, good luck

p.s i would defiantly complain to green flag thats well bad!

im sure if it was the coil pack the car will still be trying to start. and not just making that tapping noise.
