Hoping to sell my Vtr within the next few months along with saving some money i should have around 3k to play with.

ill be 22 in december so insurance isnt a huge problem, as for engine size, anything above 1.4 and below 2.0L preferably a small hatchback but im open to suggestions,

ive seen a few mitsubishi fto's around town id love to own but have no idea about them, or what the insurance is like etc..

lets hear some suggestions :)

yeah golf's were one of the first cars ive been looking at, very nice.

not so keen on the Astra, id prefer something a little smaller, the only exception would be the Mitsubishi fto but i doubt ill get that anytime soon

FTslOw, great for long distance cruising but not much else IMO.

I'd say look about and you'll be able to find a pre-facelift EP3 for that cash.

Rite some possibly better ideas:
DC2 if you can pick up an even 1/4 decent one for 3k you'll be lucky
EP3 yeah it'd be high milage but if looked after will run forever
EG6 VTi for 3k you'll more than likely get a rusty one that has been bodged together also insurance group 16
EG6 import no point looking really insurance group 17
EK4 VTi you'd get a nice one for 3k as people seem to overlook them for the EG6
Fabia VRS good motors if you can look past the Skoda badge
Clio 172 know nowt about these but it's in your price range
Clio Williams2
Pug 306 GTI-6/Rallye
MK2 Golf GTI
MK1 Golf GTI
MK4 Golf GTTDI
My EG6 possibly.

Can you get insured on Scoobys yet?

Don't get a MK3 VR6 for what they are they're slow, don't handle and look very very dated.

If it's a V6 Golf that's taking your fancy look for a MK4 V6 4motion as an R32 is considerably more.

I'd get the FTO with a decent exhaust just for the sound alone. Apart from that they are pretty krap cars though..

Robin91
11th August 2010, 15:35
VR6 = Sounds good, when it's not being repaired..

LOL @ M3 being more expensive to insure than a Ferrari.. I can insure an M3 for 5k at 18 with 1 year NCB, pretty sure I couldn't insure ANY Ferrari for that.

Im not biased and i think they are awesome cars, very good potential for big power gains, comfy and 3k will get you a clean example.

As slow as the vr6's are (which i did mention in my first post) the sound they make is awsome but is the only thing that sells them lol..

For 3k though you might get a leggy v6 4motion, i know a lad who had one for ever replacing things but then you can say that about any car and they where mainly maintiance bits for the age. Never a r32 for that money, not even a crashed one.

Prob could get one with 70-80k if you looked around, maybe less if your lucky.. That's not high at all. Bare in mind Golfs are in a different league to Saxos in terms of engine build, they're good for 150-200k + as long as they're maintained.

MiniGibbo

hahah so true.

Why not a leon cupra 1.8t?

Standard 30bhp more than the 1.8t in the golf (bar the anni edition) and generally cheaper to buy.

If not the leon maybe the ibiza?

Lewis1600
12th August 2010, 10:20

Robin91

200k miles on a 20vt... Damn that would be a lot of coilpacks!!

Haha! They don't go that often!! Well I guess it depends on the car, mines never gone and as far as I know it hasn't gone for a long time, although I think they've been replaced once since the originals.

But 200k is a lot of miles, imagine trying to make a Saxo go for 200k, you'd have to replace everything on the bloody car! Coilpacks would be the least of your worries. :homme:

4motion is a good suggestion if you can get a decent one for 3k, I personally didn't think you could but have never really looked. Sound awesome with a good exhaust sytem, not far off the R32! Be a fair bit more to run and maintain than a 1.8T though!

My old Vtr had 142k on it before I sold it on and was running sweet. Same engine all its life, well looked after. Reckon would poss do it again if still maintained.

My brothers polo was on 60k when the engine died. I know its not a golf but meant to be good engines etc etc, but it does all depend how they are looked after. Go for a GTTDi with decent history. One of those wouldnt bother me with 200k on. Economical yet nippy.
