I live under the heathrow flight path. My shooting stars seem really loud and possibly jet engined.
Is this normal?

I do believe you have pretended that Airplane's in the night sky are like shooting stars..
Think you could really use a wish right now.

I just saw 3 now looking out my window. Actually amazing to see it happen tbh. Luckily I can see the stars very clearly as well.

My mates grand parents live under it aswell in Peckham literally every 30seconds from 4am till 11pm.

If I was being pedantic I'd correct you and tell you that it's actually every 59 seconds.
But I'm not. ;)

Have you timed it, or is it common knowledge? lol

Mate it took a little patience! It took me 10 minutes of looking at the sky constantly before it happened..but man it was worth it. I was like a little kid going WOW!!! Obviously my dad told me to STFU and get inside..
It will happen again tonight I think, keep an eye out!

So what are shooting stars?
And why can they only be seen now?

Earth plows through a broad stream of tiny dust particles left over from the past disintegration of a comet. The particles burn up as air friction slows them at heights of about 50 miles, resulting in luminous trails visible for a second or two from the ground. Following the passage of a particularly bright meteor a lingering glow, called a train, sometimes remains for a few seconds or more. And you can see them because there is no moon in sight so the sky is darker than it would if the moon was there so you can see them more clearly.
