I rent a room at a shared house (4 rooms 1 person in each room and a kitchen to share) anyways a few times i have locked myself out of the house by mistake when working outside on the motors, so i decided would be best if i got a duplicate key cut and kept it in the glove box of the car, i took it to a place today to get it done and he told me he couldnt do it coz it was a security key as it had "do not duplicate" stamped round the hole where the key chain thing goes. Does anyone know if i can get it duplicated? i have just filled off the "do not duplicate" stamp and then wet and dry'd it and polished it back to a smooth finish, will this be good enough to take somewhere else to get it duplicated? cheers

Will need to get one cut by the landlord from the original.

As Bickerton says. Its for the Landlord and other peoples plus your own protection. Imagine that one of other house mates got there key duplicated, left, gave the landlord a "key" and 3/4 months later that person let them self in and took things.
I would just talk to your landlord and explain why you want one done, its a honest enough reason.

Say's it all. Like it's been said already, talk to the landlord, your reason is a legit reason to get a duplicate key cut.

When you hand the key back into the landlord he's gonna wonder where his originals gone.

Wow, you're landlord isn't going to be suspicious at all with you tampering with his keys.

to be fair even removing the do not tamper part, my local key cutter bloke is like rain man with keys so would prob tell u he can;t copy it. but easier just to ask landlord
