Hi.
Basicly im going to uni soon but am living at home still.
Will be driving maybe 20 mins down the motorway everyday and the vts will not be ideal!
I was looking at the fabia vrs since there nice and fast and still do 50mpg+ after a remap.
Any other cars worth looking at around the 4 - 6k mark that match the reqs?
Fast and fun / economical diesel?

20mins is hardly far :S my vtr does 80miles(hour and a half) to £15 and thats with headgasket and it overfueling like mad, im sure a vts isnt unbearable

Its not that its not adequete (sp?)
Its just ide rather be getting double the mpg and also pay half the tax and insurance.
+ the ride in a saxo compared the vrs is painfull.

i feel these type of threads are bandwagon things, if people on saxp didnt say i want something luxurious to get down a motorway in, people on here would never want a skoda.
they didnt design saxos to be crap cars, they do motorwayds just fine, if it bothers you higher the saxo and put standard interior in and have it how its meant to be

Point is. I actaully want a new car since im bored of the vts.
Fed up with the problems lately from it. Not saying i wont get probelms with the fabia... just using the odds.
Basicly set to get a fabia, just wanted to see what else there was.
And no there not 'fast'
But 330lb of torque is nothing to be sniffed at.

Fabia VRS ftw!!!
and how can you say that its not fast!!!! £295 remap, and its instantly at 193bhp and 310lbsft of torque, compared with a vts of 120bhp and about 100lbs ft
no brainer imo, better fuel MPG, more reliable (all VW parts) , faster, cheaper insurance, more luxurious, comfortable, 5dr , bigger i could go on for ages,
very good cars have them at work and most of them are on 240k thats mostly done at 120mph+ and only serviced regulary.

I think you may be pleasentley suprised mate!
One was right up my backside once going down the A5 , i asked him what he had had done he smiled and said he had had it mapped to 170 bhp, tbh i think at 130 they are quite nippy.

How about a 6n2 Polo 1.9 TDI, pretty much exact same as a Fabia but with better resale due to it being branded VW.

Stage1 map takes it to nearly 200bhp and over 300lbs of torque
Should either be sitting with or beating a typeR

Seat Ibiza FR Not the Cupra though (unless you can afford the extra insurance price)
The FR tdi = 130bhp A friend has one and he gets 50mpg and we got 75mpg on the lil readout once was ace!! was ticking over in 6th down a slight hill but still!
The Cupra tdi = 150bhp iirc
Same as golfs but without the stupid extra cash you pay just for the badge!!

Some how I don't believe a VRS will do 50plus after a re map, my gf's unmapped does around 35, 40 on a motorway and my mates mapped does less

Porsche is VAG.
Edit: In December 2009, Volkswagen AG bought a 49.9% stake in Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG (more commonly known as Porsche AG) in a first step towards an 'integrated automotive group' with Porsche. This was agreed between Volkswagen AG and Porsche SE during negotiations on the contracts of implementation relating to the merger of the two companies. The merger of Volkswagen AG and Porsche SE is scheduled to take place during the course of 2011

Porsche is VAG.
Edit:
49.9%, not majority share. Merger PLANNED to take place is 2011. (We're in 2010 incase you havn't realised.)

It doesn't actually, that's what most people assume it means because in English that'd be logical.
It's actually Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft.

Volkswagen Incorporated iirc? They all do it. Porsche AG. Audi AG etc. But because Volkswagen technically owns all of the different brands, they just refer to them under the collective term, VAG.

buying a more expensive car to save money on fuel is just silly, unless you are doing mega miles, you will only be saving a couple of quid a week with your commute

Still won't be much in it tbh....
Mate Neil had a mk4 ibiza fr cupra. Can be the same engine in a Fabia. Exhaust done and a re-map. 184bhp ATW and 345lbs torque proven. Sat with my bud Baz's 367bhp proven evo5 all the way.

Circumstances?
I pwned a lambo in my VTR the other day.
He was doing 70 on the motorway, I easily overtook him doing 74.
From this I can deduce VTR's are better than supercars.

that must be more than a remap, or that turbo is at its limit, my 150 tdi is 190bhp and 310lbs/ft and it was quite an aggressive remap,
would say bye to the clutch and flywheel quite quick,
still, there is a youtube vid of one with a remap and jesus christ its quick, wish mine was that fast,
trying to find it now,
i went from a vtr to my leon and it doesnt save a great deal of money in fuel, a carfully driven vts will do not much less mpg than a sporty tdi like the vrs/fr.

26th August 2010, 15:25
They're the PD130, they've got the same turbo, IIRC, the only difference between them and your engine is that they run a side mount I/C and different cams, and less boost.
