What do people think of these cars?
Ive currently got a 306 xs and love it but its purple lol.
Ive got the opportunity to get a gti6 from a family freind and im seriously considering it.
Are there any good/bad things with these?
I know a saxo forum isn't the ideal place to ask but its gotta be worth a try.

I have only ever seen two ever, one is the one im talking about, and the other belonged to a mate of mine.

I prefer the rallye for looks but I would rather have a car with air con, electrics etc.

I imagine the gearbox will be fun
Rotrex_Rallye
18th August 2010, 14:31
The air con rarely works on a gti6.... 99% of the time they need pipes replacing, and they cost! But for day to day driving, yeah the gti's the one to go for.

Bad points - Everything else

not really.... same price bracket, but the gti6 would have it after 70/80.... not really better is it, i'd agree theres not much in it like, but it's no better matey.

Never been beaten off a gti6 when I had the vts...
I Personally would class a VTS as better. They are fresher looking but the 306's can be made look amazing when slammed on gti180 wheels

Listen, this could be an ongoing argument here mate, but from my experiences from having fun with mates gti6's, the saxo came out on top anytime.
And I also gave my opinion ''ON TOPIC'' and you challenged what I said. After all it is my own opinion so what does it have to do with you?

I'm just in a philosophical mood today :detective:
Anyway, from what I have read before people have said the 106 gti/saxo vts is pretty much level pegging, then 100mph the gti6 pull away slightly, possibly due to the 6 speed.
Might be complete rubbish, no idea.

Anywhere between 70-100 I guess. Depends on the driver and the condition of the car really. 106 gti, saxo vts and 306 gti are all cracking little cars. I have to say though, on track the extra grunt of the 306gti really comes into it when you hit the straights. Only ever had 1 saxo come past me on track, he told me it was pushin 210bhp and he was also a fantastic driver.

Rarely is a car standard on a trackday. This saxo was N/A too, sounded amazing.
I want to take my vtr on track, just to give it the full beans. On a tight little circuit I bet it would surprise a lot of cars.

The main problem with 306's is that most are on 100k plus, meaning theres a lot of dogs out there.

Off the production line a 306 will be faster eventually than a 106/saxo
The production like was up to 12 years ago so alot of 306's have been badly looked after and as mentioned most are on 120k+ easily
I was very very tempted to get a 306 over my gti recently but their thirst for fuel has been what eventually put me off

A well looked after 306 gti6 will be quicker than a vts... but people dont look after them hence they get cheap.
Also the traffic light I have never been beaten by a 6 is laughable on a give and take road a 6 will eat a vts.. just leave it in 3rd and use torque which the 16v TU lacks low down hence the poor vts driver having to change more times than jacko at one of his giggs.
VTS are great cars but 6's where near enough 18k new over 10 years ago a well looked after one which is rare is a much nicer place to be, sounds nicer doesnt have a silly plastic inlet and will pull like a train.
One of the last great gti's and itl go round a corner without skipping and jumping like most Ibiza curpras.

VTS is 7.6 (107 Lbs ft of torque at 5200)
thats taken of what car and out the back of Evo...

I'm not arguing mate. IMO Gti-6 are lovely cars, Just abit bulky for me. I was just simply stating that he was wrong and a vts is quicker. He may of beaten a few off the "traffic light race" but then again, the driver was probs just a spotty teenager who bounces off the limiter who can't drive for shit...

Drew he said a vts was a second quicker to 60 than a VTS which i said i was comparible to me saying Mandela was white as it is utter bollocks.
Some KW V1-3?s would put it on an even keel though Drew, maybe not on adjustibility stakes but at least on grip terms. Cheap coilovers ruin everything.

Ah thats part of the fun! lol. To be honest I thought it was a fairly straight motor from what i read on here. If I'd gone to see it though I would've picked up on any problems.
I just love the thought of a ~260bhp saxo... still badged up as a vtr :bandit:

5 speed box, can't be any worse than the gti6 and with the AST's I have, handling wouldn't be that compromised.

there is a noticable difference in front end turn in on a 205 with a 6 lump and a be box and thats in a car with better chassis. The 106 tends to wash wide alot..this could of course be cured with a lot of camber but if your gonna put a 6 lump in something it might as well be a 205 as its lighter than the vts/106 to start with and you need less fabrication.
You have an intergrale though so you have taste.

How many times do you go from 0-60 you go from 40-70 more often and the gti6 is unmatched for that.

Id prefer a vts to a gti-6 just as i prefer the look of the vts, gti-6 looks a bit bulky and heavy to me.
But i agree that some people on here are brainwashed into thinking the vts is the best car ever, when it clearly isnt
But saying that, what you get for your money with a vts is priceless. For the money i don't think there is a better car, as you say, you got yours for less than a grand

So you go from 0-60 and stay at 60 until you stop you dont slow down atall?
Also Joe VTS is better than a 430 did you not know this.
Finally the best car you can get for sub 1k is probably a 205 gti more of a drivers car than the VTS.
Which is why Im selling my vts for a soft 206 gti as Im getting old.
