Does anyone working for halfords know how much it will cost for someone to have a play with the gears on my gf's bike. I really can't be bothered with it

Wouldnt bother going into any halfords to have your gears/speeds adjusted as they wont do a decent job of it. Have you not got any small family run bike shops near you?

When i couldn be bothered with my gears, i took mine in and got some kinda of service plan for a year, and that was only about 25 quid, worth doing if you ask me.

It will be around 6 quid mate just to adjust them, if cables need replacing then more.
Just ask to speak to a bike mechanic and then let them do it as halfords do employ some numpties for general cashier/sales work.

do it yourself its either cable needs tightening or the two lil screws need aligning.

Agreed, its quite easy with a lot of useful guides on the net.

Cheaper and far better to go to an independent bike shop.
Fuck Halfords. They couldn't fit a car battery if they tried.

Lol that makes me a useless monkey then. I've had a play with the screws and cable and can't get it quite right. I don't mind paying 10-15 for it to be someone elses problem.

lowers gears work fine but the big gears 1 2 3 are crap, i just cant get it to smoothly go through them. Ive adjusted them and can get it to jump gears or not change at all. Just cant get all 3 working

u mean the gears on the pedals yea. been a long time since i played with my bike.
tighten the cable up for the tightest gear then adjust using the screws to get it to change smooth.
but use it in the correct gears on the rear otherwise it will jump around

I worked in halfords bikehut until about a week ago. I used to adjust alot of peoples gears for free if my supervisor wasnt around.
I am not a monkey, nor are any of the people who i work with in the bike section. Everyone is trained and until they can be trusted any bike they touch is checked over by a trained person!
Where you located mate any where near epsom? Ill help ya out if ya are.

Fair enough, well as said from my experience any staff working on bikes in halfords are trained, although you do get the odd dopey one.
Still if you do have a local bike shop try there instead, its always better to help out a small company rather than a big one aslong as the prices are not more.
