Hey folks tried searching but couldn't find anything tbh.

One of my mates has a golf with stretched tyres and the police are trying to give him 12 points?

can anybody shed some light on the whole stretched tyre law?

cheers for any help.

Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG, FWB: GGQ1) is a multinational public cloud computing, Internet search, and advertising technologies corporation. Google hosts and develops a number of Internet-based services and products,[5] and generates profit primarily from advertising through its AdWords program.[2][6] The company was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, often dubbed the "Google Guys",[7][8][9] while the two were attending Stanford University as Ph.D. candidates. It was first incorporated as a privately held company on September 4, 1998, with its initial public offering to follow on August 19, 2004. The company's stated mission from the outset was "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful",[10] and the company's unofficial slogan – coined by Google engineer Paul Buchheit – is Don't be evil.[11][12] In 2006, the company moved to their current headquarters in Mountain View, California.

How stretched are his tires? I don't know any law on them but I completely agree if there is one.

were they bald ?

or just because they are the wrong size for rims ?

if tyres are fitted within manufacturers spec i wouldn't have thought there was a deal they can do

Surely if it passed an MOT then they can't touch him...

Surely the manufacturer's spec is for the tire to be fitted to the same sized wheel as the tire?

there can be 0 tread outside of the arch. so its has to just be stretch. but if it looks overrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrly stretched then i dunno......

i know that manufacturers recommend a certain width of rim for each tyre size, wether the police are able to enforce recommendations as law is another thing

This car really needs arch extensions, streteched tyres don't perform properly anyway

whu bother

Well if it's outside of the recommendations then surely they're unfit for use so there must be something enforceable about that. I certainly hope so anyway. I hate the idea of stretched tires.

Have any of the people commenting on stretch tyres on here ever, fitted, been in or driven a car with stretched tyres on it?
It's difficult to say what size tyre fit on what rims as the tyre width to wheel width varies, even on new cars.
Saying that I can't imagine some coppers, legal or not, like some people on this thread, would ever be happy with them. I know 1 mate of mine had to get his car recovered home after being pulled, though can't remember if they had a problem with the stretch or the poke

Only thing wrong is the wheels might be sticking out further than the arch.
No way a 12 pointer, unless they are classing it as 3 points a corner.

Best bet is to get some arch extensions. Never heard of stretch being illegal.

wheels out of arches are stupid. But so are big stretched tyres. Pointless in my eyes.

i thought the tread had to be under the arch and the rim isnt allowed to stick 3cm past the arch, thats what i read on the police forum a while back, and stretched tyres dont handle as bad as people think! and ripping the tyre off the rim is a myth! and drifters use stretched tyres so why dont theirs rip off?

Tontsy

Its legal...to an extent!
One, you can have upto 20mm of poke, aslong as this doesnt include legal tread! Dont forget a set % of your tyre can be bald and more so if the edge and shoulder of the tyre has step up tread!
Two, each rim has a specific size tyre for it! But withing spec you can fit above and below that tyre size! Each rim would be different.
Im not going to bother saying what wheel for what size tyre, but if you want to be safe you can drop upto an inch in width or above by an inch, aslong as you match the profile!

Does anyone actually realise there is more to a rim that the "j" what about h and i? The j doesnt mean width, it mean bead hight and iirc its about 13mm, depending on bead height can vary the strertch, try too much on a small bead and off it popps!

And aslong as you stay withing your poke limits, and know your tyre, how much can be bald, you can take it to the ministry and walk away with a smile on your face!

Tyres wont come off a rim? Your a fucking titmate, i worked with a guy who fitting strech, come off on the motorway and now hes in the slammer for manslaughter!

Like i said, therre is a limit for each rim!

got proof as plenty of people say they have ripped off but theres no proof anywere, every tryed to take a stretched tyre off? last time i had mine take off they changed a full set of normal tyres to fitting one stretchd tyre as they couldnt remove it, and depends how extreme you go on stretch, chandlers saxo ran 195s on a 9j thats stupid stretch which wont bead, running subtle like a 225 will bead

MiniGibbo
23rd August 2010, 19:22
I run 205 on a 8.5j happly and wouldnt think twice about running 225 on a 10j.

Robin91
23rd August 2010, 19:27
I've got stretched tyres front and back, front's are a tiny stretch. Rears are running 225's, I think they're meant to be 265 - so not the worlds biggest stretch but a fair stretch.

The apparent 'risk' with stretched tyres is there's a risk of the bead braking and the tyre deflating, equivalent to having a blow-out. However to be at risk of this happening you'd have to have a MASSIVE stretch. It's not illegal to have stretched tyres, mine passed MOT with them last week absolutely fine, as long as the entirety of the tread of the tyre is under the arch it's fine.

Edit: Rear rims are 10.5" iirc.

Ive seen this done on many forums, pictures of cars drifintg, track daying etc etc.. Only thing you need to do relly is keep on top of your pressures and youll be fine.

ive been pulled countless times and the old bill always comment on the stretch of my wheels, makes me laugh as they always ask me a dozen questions about them, and then let me go on my way. I think there just intrigued tbh. one policeman described them as ballooned tyres which made me chuckle lol.

Im an mot tester and a tyre fitter... Ive fitted and removed stretched. Ivefailed and passed poke!
Complete bs to anyone who says its hard to remove strech! Blowing them up is abit of a shitter but changing the tyre over itself takes all over 30 fucking seconds!

I change easily over 100 tyres a day ;)

And anything will bead, its just making it sit SAFE! Ive had 120! space savers on 6.5" steels!
