Only free if you have monies in your account, or paying direct from bank account.

I always thought it didn't cost when paying via gift, but now i'm led to believe that it always costs when paying gift, but the sender pays the fee's...maybe it was always like that? Or have you sent money via gift before and it didn't charge you fee's?

If it never used to cost, then maybe they have cottoned on to the amount of people accepting money via gift option, so have decided to make the sender pay the fee's...wise decision i reckon

They are a company who offer a very handy service for transactions, would you like them to just offer it free then and make it a non profitable business?

They need to make money, and although it is gonna be worse for us, i still think it's a good idea to add fee's to gift transactions for the sender

it depends, when i first set up i used to get asked all the time(2005ish?), now i do it regular with no charge, its totally dependant on how much goes through your paypal account each month, i used to only do gift transactions and got charged every time, now i regular have a grand plus per month go through(normal sales), i NEVER get charged anymore, a mate sais hes the same, i now store money in may paypal account as savings and sem to get a beter rate using the noraml procedure, i think if theyre receiving money off you it gets by but if theyre not it registers possible fraud?

It makes sense for Paypal to charge for every transaction that goes through them. I mean, they are a business and they should be making money. But if you don't want to be charged for a sending a gift then I'm sure there are plenty other websites that offer that at no charge. Paypal is charging you for the convenience of using them though so it's up to you to think if that's worth paying for or not.
