Granny shifting not double clutching like ya should?? Ha fast and furious .... But what it double clutching?

A double clutch (also called a double declutch) is a driving procedure primarily used for vehicles with an unsynchronized manual transmission. The double clutching technique involves the following steps:

* The clutch pedal is pressed, the throttle is released, and the gearbox is shifted into neutral.
* The clutch pedal is then released. As the engine idles with no load, the RPM will decrease until they are at a level suitable for shifting into the next gear.
* The driver then depresses the clutch again and shifts into the next gear. The whole maneuver can, with practice, take no more than a fraction of a second, and the result is a very smooth gear change.

exactly what it says

clutch in to change to neutral
clutch out in neutral
clutch in to select new gear

I noticed a couple of mates doing this, and never knew why they did it. Mainly when they came to traffic lights when there on green, about to change to red. Kinda preparing what gear to engage

lookinsaxo

Surely its faster to change gear normally? Does it make the car accelerate faster or ? What's the benefits?

It's used for deceleration (sp?) and for big rigs when going into a higher gear I'm sure, I googled it a while back and got some answers on Yahoo, when you use it when changing into a higher gear you set the revs when you release the clutch in neutral I think, correct me if I'm wrong.

You decelerate quicker when in gear? coz then the engine is slowing the car as well as friction

I don't know about that, my post was a little muddled. I meant it can be used for decelaration and acceleration and specifically for truckers. I'm not too sure on the subject.

Its to 'rev match' the engine iirc. When slowing down rapidly you, Brake, clutch in, neutral, clutch out, rev, clutch in, gear and release clutch (when practiced it can be done very quickly). It brings the revs closer to what they will be when you have changed down, i.e causing less engine strain. You can combine this with heel toe braking. Well this is what i do anyway lol :homme:

You all forgot to mention bliping the throttle when changing into the lowergear..

clutch in, neatral.
clutch out.
clutch in BLIP THROTTLE.
downshift.

it makes chaging down gears alot smoother and prevents the car becoming unbalanced when cornering. See heel+toe.

I rev ('blip') when in neutral otherwise there's no point in puting it into neutral is there? And i mentioned it too :homme: i just used 'rev' insted of 'blip'.

Yes it is.

Does it make the car accelerate faster or ?

No

What's the benefits?

If you have a really old vintage car it's required to match the engine speed to the gear speak.

Its something you HAVE to do if you have a dog gearbox.

Syncromesh boxes dont require it but it does reduce wear on the baulkrings and makes the gearchange smoother.

Not normally. These are most commonly found in motorbike and motorsport. Normally a lift of the throttle is sufficient to shift up and a single compression of the clutch along with a blip of the throttle to match the revs to road speed to shift down

Often used in lorries.

When changing down gear i always give my car a quick blip on the throttle. Makes gear changes a lot smoother.

why would you want to do both? just heel and toeing matches the revs..

First time I tried to heel+toe I nearly went through the windscreen :(

I always blip throttle when shifting down to match revs as it's much much smoother. It also sounds fucking awesome :D

VTEC requires wide open throttle...blipping on a downchange doesn't, so VTEC doesn't engage

My cousin (who rolled his moms Punto) tried telling me to double clutch to make my car quicker lmfao. There's no reason at all to use it in a saxo, I heel and toe whenever I drive unless I have my gym trainers on, then it's impossible.

Saxo's are really really easy to heel and toe. Well spaced pedals (close but I manage with size 11's), good throttle response and a progressive brake. My old Clio was very difficult, mainly due to bad spacing and because about half inch of travel on the brake took you from not braking to locking up all 4 wheels! No idea why all renaults seem to have stupidly powerful servos? Hate the things.

It's worth Learing to heel and toe though, took me no time in the vtr. I learnt the principals of it on bikes where you need it when entering a corner quick and on a sm (mine was a 450 single) there's loads of engine braking so not clipping combined with a hydraulic clutch which was like a switch meant backing it in in the wet when you really don't want to haha.

I have size 12 feet and drive a car designed for small japanese men.

Heel and toe is more like pressing clutch, brake and throttle all with my big toe lol
