View Full Version : Am i a dangerous driver?

Took my partners mom shopping today, and she called me a dangerous driver.

I drive sensible in my eyes. I dont do stupid speeds, i dont tend to race people and i am always aware of my surroundings.
About 10mins after leaving myne and being stuck at 25 through traffic, i took a short cut down the lanes, I sat about 60 all the way. Which she wasnt best pleased about, then on the way out the shopping centre there is a set of traffic lights, and when they go red, your there for 6/7 minutes, so as i pulled out car park they went from green to amber, so i put my foot down abit

( went to about 5000 in 1st then 3500 in 2nd) and she had a major bitch fit.

But made me think if she labels me as a bad driver how would police see it.

What you have just explained is dangerous driving tbh.

Amber is to tell you to slow down, not speed up.

Yes the above may be considered dangerous driving.

However this may not be the worst thing to come out of this, you've kind of pissed in the wind a bit as you must remember now that your partners mum has an opinion on how you drive and will think you drive worse with her daughter in the car.

Hahaha well yeh it is dangerous cus sum people start to cross roads when its amber now fair enough they shouldnt but you shouldnt put ur foot down either so if u hit someone it would be your fault and would be down to dangerous driving and then you have that to deal with so guess what you have just put is dangerous yes

I have to drive like a granny when my partners in the car lol.
Hence why when she aint in the car tend to put foot down a lil bit.
Sounds Stupid but the car dont like slow driving, If i change into 3rd at 30.. starts getting jerky etc then have to change back down and tap throttle

Robbie-Flat-Arch
1st September 2010, 12:09
Another thing to think about ur doing 60 down tight roads. If there is a blind bend and say a tractor is around the corner u hit it at 60 killing you and ur partners mum ur misses is then at home on her own not knowing what has happend and then ur kid is going to grow up without a dad. Sad but true just take it easy for the sake of u, ur partner and her mum and ur kid

Lilreg999
1st September 2010, 12:16
I always slow for the 2 sharp blind bends, because my a family member had bad crash on the one. There not super tight tbf, when my sister fell down the stairs with new born baby in her arms and my little niece called me sayin she had gone un-concious, i called an ambo then i was doing 100 down them lanes, theres no hedge rows so you can see whats coming and theres plenty of room for 2 cars except 2 bends.

I know this dont excuse the fact off bad driving but to most people 60 is nothing down them lanes...

Sit there burning fuel? You'll waste more flooring it than sitting idle at 900 revs or something (depending on your setup)

Also "have" to drive like a granny? You should want too imo, it's your family! And anyway you're saving your car, fuel, tyres etc.

I sympathise to an extent though, sometimes you need to be where you need to be.... but if I had my birds mum in the car (unlikely she'd want to get in a bucket though lol) I would be civilian stig :afro:

Its a 435bhp 2.1 Turbo.. idles at 1500rpm... Kills fuel more leaving it parked.
I left it idling for an hour at a show once to allow turbo to cool... killed just on a 1/43 of my fuel.

I got 1.6 Nova and A Golf but theres no room in the boot for the cot etc we picked up today, so i had to use nova, as i dont have the cage in, and the back seats are out.

Otherwise i tend to use the 1.6

dont matter how you drive now.

coz when the baby is born youd better be waiting at those traffic lights for 6-7 minutes 'burning fuel' or i wouldnt let you have a child int he car.

anyway, you dont sit at traffic lights for 6-7 minutes. they are programmed i think for no more than 3 - 4 to stop a back log of traffic back to other junctions / roundabouts / car pakrs etc.

and is 4 minutes out of of your precious life sitting at traffic lights really that fricking bad?

no wonder your oH's mum kicked up a stink. ur gonna have her daughter and grandchild in there

surely better to have a licence when the baby is born though.

don't think the driving sounds to bad though.

The way you described your driving seems fine to me.. Everyone on here just jumps down peoples throats when they mention anything that isn't driving like an angel

If i was you i would of been seriously biting my lip...i would of been so close to teling her to fuck off and get out the car if she isn't happy, fucking hate back seat passengers (when you're doing nothing wrong)

I hate taking my Mam out in the car, i dread it.. Have had so many arguments in the car with her which is more dangerous than any driving i do!

If i go anywhere near 60 on the road down to the village, even on the straight bits, she goes mad.. If i go over like 62/63 on the double track roads, she has a sly peer at the speedo, then keeps doing it if i don't slow down then eventually she's like "right Peter thats enough, for fuck sake"

If i continue at 60 round bends which when in the car myself i can easily go 100mph+ round it, she goes nuts, one day i'll just go mad and floor it and say look what the cars fucking capable of

Honestly it boils my piss.. Don't take her shopping again lad if she is just gonna gurn over fuck all

Shit thread.

Why drive like a granny in a 435bhp Nova turbo? It's obvious you're just putting it on for her sake

When he dashed off at the lights, the car would feel fast as fuck to her, so she would of thought he was going alot faster

If i accelerate hard in mine, as soon as it hits VTEC mam grabs the side of the seat, as if we are gonna go back in time or something

It's just delerious old people who think the car is going too fast when it's not, and if they aren't happy they should maybe consider public transport, if not just keep quiet and appreciate the fact that you are being given a lift for your own benefit

i wouldnt say you were driving dangerously but if I had my birds mum in the car I would drive VERY sensibly, but thats because she didn't used to be allowed in the car because of the engine size :/ so I would be keen to show her im a sensible driver, especially with my girlfreind in the car. by myself, i might have a bit of fun but not when anyone elses well being is at risk.

LOL sitting at traffic lights for what would actually be probably no more than a few minutes, will use fuck all fuel. I don't care if it's a 400 odd BHP nova which idles at 1500, it'll use less fuel doing that than booting it through the lights.

burning fuel sitting at a traffic light for 6-7 minutes. . . I know how you can fix that.

I dont know about your car but mine has a pretty neat little feature that i use when im stuck in horrific traffic. Look to the right of my steering wheel and . . . you can turn the engine off.

OR...simply nip on slighty faster than usual, and get through the lights before they hit red, and you won't have to sit and wait whatsoever

If i'm approaching say traffic lights on a double track road which is down to 1 lane, and no one is working there at the time, and the cars infront of me have went through but are still going along in one lane at 30mph, i'll rip through the red lights, catch them up and follow the que...doesn't affect anyone, and saves me alot of waiting about

Or even better, just driver around faster everywhere, then you will get to the traffic lights way before you normally would, so even if they are on red, you are still arriving at the lights earlier than you would of been if you were doing the speed limit

Same applies with running someone over in your car that is crossing the road, if only you had drove say 10mph over the speed limit, you would have already passed the point where the person crosses the road, and everything would be ok

Turbo cars especially cars running higher power you don't want to turn off when the turbos warm without letting them idle for a certain time period depending on how the cars been driven / how hot it is etc (hence turbo timers) so to be fair he's got an excuse for not doing that! Unless he'd literally just got in the car and had been driving a few minutes, then it wouldn't make any odds really.

Think about that next time.

I drive marginally different when my mom or dad is with me. I still keep the same following distance but I tend to brake slightly earlier and lighter, so its a more calming ride.

If I sometimes put my foot down with my dad he'll say "you'll blow it up". 3000rpm is hardly going to kill it and I need to use some revs with his fat ass on board! He does have a point though, he will be the one fixing it if it goes wrong LOL.
