View Full Version : Do you own a Track Car?

More of a Status Thread i guess.
Seems to be alot of threads in the progress area for 'Track Cars' But only a few of them have videos or talk about going on the track.
Have you got a 'Track Car'?
Have you been on the track with your 'Track Car'?
Have you been on the track in a car that isnt a 'Track Car'
Do you use your 'Track Car' on the road aswell as the track
Is your 'Track Car' a Daily Drive
Or do you have a well specced car that you just use on the road. Abit like a kit car or a caterham that poeple only get out at the weekend and dont use on the track, but just for some country road driving, or for the satisfaction of having a car that you enjoy working on?
Why do poeple feel the need to give their car a clasification of what it is:
'Im going down the euro route'
'Im going for the track look' :S
Why do poeple have to place their car within a type of car and then try and keep it within the guidlines of that type. Everyone trying to be unique but they try and be unique by classing their car as a type of car.
Why dont poeple just make their car to their own tastes making it unique and ignore the strict guide lines or 'Track' or 'Euro' in their attempt to be unique?

Everyone that owns a modded 106 or Saxo on this forum seems to think they own a track car. 99.9% accurate.

I have a standard car that i track.
But it is a purpose built road going track car.
Always makes me lol at threads "VTS track car"
Me: Any intention of taking it on a track?
No...
Me: Well its not a track car, its just a saxo with the rear seats taken out isn't it?
Yep...
Me: Get out!

My car is track use only, eventhough it has mot & tax just so i can drive it there & back.
stripped, no radio,no sound deadening, 6 point cage, buckets, harnesses, poly bushes etc, tons of rattles, hot & loud.
Could be used daily however you would have to be keen.

Track car is a car that is DEDICATED to the track only IMO. Otherwise you just own a car that you use on track.
A lot of progress threads need ammending.

I like to think of track cars as completely stripped as i'n everything with full cage etc etc, not a daily drive.
Then there's my idea of a fast road comfy car. Which is slightly the same as a track car just maybe not as stripped etc but you still use it on track for the driving experience and testing your cars limits/ new mods etc, could be your daily drive or just a toy

But then you could have a track car that has standard interior and it is trailored to the track with that being its only use.
I just find it interesting how poeple think for it to be a track car it HAS to have a spec to a certain standard. And that a track car has to have a fast well built engine thats got more than just standard springs and dampers etc

Thats probably one of the biggest misconceptions on this forum. The assumption that you need "spec" to go on track! Shocking..
Sorry its a sore subject for me. Makes me cringeeeeeeee! :flamed:

My cars engine is std, so is the exhaust. it has 120 BHP but thats ok on track
The thing alot of people do is like to talk about going on track & never do.
Its fun & a std car is just fine no problem at all.

i bought a vts, removed all of the interior, put a cage in it, put fancy carbon bits everywhere harnesses, bucket seats and generally made it useless as a road-going car. i tell everyone its a track car, but realy i use it for traffic light grand prix an trying to impress my mates at the local mcdonalds.
its never seen a track and probably never will.
after doing all this to my car, i then come on sax-p and flame people for saying they've driven fast.
sums up quite a few members, don't you think?

My car has been on track, I crashed lol. I plan to take it out again. Its getting the MOT on friday so I can take it to Castle Combe on the 11th for its next track day.
Its not a 'Track Car' as in it only goes on track. It is also my daily driver.
I have stripped it, got a few breathing mods and sorting suspension and brakes.
Not fussed about chasing bhp, aslong as it is pretty quick on track and still reasonable to use on the road thats fine.
If people want to say it isnt a track car then so be it. It does what I want it to.
I want to get a second car so the saxo can be purely a toy. Its more of a long term project for track use than a dedicated track car.

I am poor, but a wannabe Lewis Hamilton ....
The solution...
Have two cars for the price of one... I have a White mk 1 which basically nothin is standard except the interior. Which is comfy as a daily drive, then for trackdays and trax, Fcs etc jus strip everything wack a harness
Roll cage and bucket in.. Job done

I'm going to put no... But i suppose it probably wouldn't be an awful car on track.
It handle's reasonably well, not as good as a lot on here due to being quite low but it's fun enough. Also it's stripped with Sparco's so it's a supportive ride.
But i wouldn't say it's a true Track Car one bit... Not to say i couldn't take it on track.

No would be the answer to this question if you beleive a track car needs to be stripped out with a cage etc..
Mines full weight but has endless chassis mods which allows me to set respectable times and enjoy my self to the full :y:

I built my car to be fast on track but still useable daily never called it a track car. 708s gave it top end as did the 4-1 I wasn't bothered about loosing low down power which is more handy day to day.
First track day was so much fun but so unlucky
