View Full Version : How to secure my re-located plate.

roxo

First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Anyway, i moved my front plate yesterday and re-located it to the side. But it's too fiddly to get my hands down there to secure it with cable ties etc. How can i secure it down? Like a really strong double sided tape or something?

Rob.

EDIT: It's held on atm by duct tape. But doesn't look like it will stay for too long.

I stole it from my dad's toolbox.

But when I had my numberplate before, I got some really sticky pads from my local small car place? It held my number plate quite well.

Best and easiest way is double sided velcro from halfrauds

Oh, haha. Yeah there is a small car place like 2 minutes from my house so i will ask for some strong double sided tape that would be strong enough for holding plates on.

You recon that would be better than double sided tape or?

But I can call you babe though, right?

Lol at how this thread got so off topic so quickly.

Anyhow roxo personally I'd remove the square plates (they're technically illegal) and get standard ones or a standard one on the back and a stick-on one for the front

Back on sort of topic, how are square plates illegal? As long as they have the lettering at a standard heigh / font - and reflect... They are legal?

roxo
2nd September 2010, 13:48
I got told they are illegal on this forum too when i posted pictures of my car. I dont see how though? :S.

Surley enough people have them and don't get pulled!?

For some strange reason i remember that only evo's and alfas can have the box number plates off centre. Because the manufacturers applied for it because of the designs of the cars

MunkyBoy
2nd September 2010, 14:23
I'm 100% sure they are legal.

If they are 11" x 8", and have the correct font / size and reflection of a normal number plate you can put them anywhere on the front of the vehicle.

Moke

Vehicle registration number plates in the UK are rectangular or square in shape, with the exact permitted dimensions of the plate and its lettering set down in law.

Wiki Wiki wahhh!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_the_United_Kingdom

Exactamundo.

The industry standard size front number plate is 520 mm × 111 mm (20½" × 4⅜"). Rear plates are either the same size, or 285 mm × 203 mm or 533 mm × 152 mm. There is no specified legal size for a number plate. For example, the rear number plate of a Rover 75 is 635 mm x 175 mm. However, all number plates must adhere to British Standard BS AU 145d[2], which must be marked on the plate, along with the name and postcode of the manufacturer and the supplier of the plates.

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/PersonalisedRegAndNumberPlates/DG_181503

These are the only guidelines, that the letters and spacing needs to be correct. I've spoke to my local DVLA office about this, and they told me my plate is legal as long as my lettering is correct.

The best thing imo is no more nails pads, Cheap from wilko, I don't rate the tape as recently it hasn't worked for my pressed plates.
