i know this isnt a saxo but same rules apply. My mini bodyshell etc is currently primered and will be coloured next week, i want to know how long shall i leave it untill i start bolting things back on the car etc as i dont want items such as window seals etc to make dints in the paintwork. The mini will be left for at least a week anyway as it is getting wet sanded and polished the week after its coloured. is this long enough or will it need more?

also when shall i put the first coat of wax on the car, i would like to put on wax before i start building it up tbh so it has some protection

i forgot to mention the paint will have an accerator mixed within the paint

thanks
garry

depends on :-
1. what paint you will be using ie- 2 pac cellulose waterbased and high solid
2. how thick the paint is applied
3. if it is baked in a spray booth or left to air dry

all the 3 above have to be thought about before re fitting parts as ellulose paint can be soft for upto 4 weeks after painting.

if its painted in high solid paint or 2 pac paint you should be able to re fit parts if your careful and its baked after about 24 hours.

but as with any paint the longer you can leave it the harder it will get as most modern paints dry with a chemical reaction now rather than solvent evaporation.

and as for the accelarator in the paint i wouldnt bother as u will get a better paint finish if you paint it without as the paint will flow better and give you a better finish without as much orangepeel.meaning less work with the wet sanding and the buffer

the paint is high solid (not waterbased) and the paint will be quite thick. it will be painted in booth

as said it will be left for a minimum of 7days before its set sanded anyway

you wont have any problems then mate we normally fit the cars back up the same day as they are baked and we dont have any issues unless the paint is on aluminium then for some reason the paint stays softer for longer.

so what colour you going for?
