View Full Version : Can rust spots be treated?

My mate had his saxo parked on his drive and the lad next door decided to cut his gates off using a grinder, resulting in my mates car being covered in tiny prices of hot metal.
After 3 days there is now loads of little spots of rust, will these just be the metal off the gate? Or will it be the actual car?
And if so how would you fix this, can it be repaired or is it a full respray?
Cheers :)

It depends if its just rust or if its complete rot.. Sounds like what your friend has could be treated although without a respray it will never be as good as it was.

its the ground off material from the gates mate, it'll need a really good machine polish with a decent polish and polisher (being the person), or if that doesn't sort it, its a respray. Like mentioned I'd make next door neighbours pay up for it.

i wouldnt machine polish it till you have got the metal bits of the car otherwise you risk puting lots of scratches in the paintwork when they come unstuck from the paintwork and get stuck on the pad of the machine polisher.

will need a good clean down prior to any polish being applied
most should come off with a good jet wash, but as said make sure all the metal bits are off prior to getting the polisher out

if they were grinding sparks they well have burnt their way into the paint, they can easily burn into glass so paint stands no chance
