Someone I know hit a dear the other day in his black VTS and cannot be bothered to fix it/break it himself, he is after £400. The engine has 60K on it but everything is in sound condition apart from the slam panel, radiator, bonnet etc.. so the whole front end really but it drives.

Now, if I could get him down a bit cheaper say £350 or under what should I do?

Split it for parts and sell seperately or fix the front cheaply and sell it as a shiney car again? Or do none of the above and avoid! It looks in ok condition just needs a clean up. What would give the biggest profit gain? I've never split a car before but I have a basic knowledge of whats under the bonnet! Just looking to make a bit of cash and it'll help me to learn more about the car

Opinions?

Buy it and split it for parts if you have somewhere to store the car

Then scrap the rest of it

Split it and sell me a driverside front arch for cheap money as mine broke today :(

So split seems to be the better option?! How much do you reckon the lump and everything could be sold for all in? With history to prove mileage of course! VTS wheels £150? Interior etc? I suppose it all adds up..

depends on ehxhaust etc aswell. should get around 1k for it by splitting it though. depending on year you might be better off fixing it. i am breaking a black mk2 if you need any parts.

So you guys who break cars i also have a question.

So lets say you take the engine and box out sell other stuff from the car blah blah blah. What do you do with the shell thats left ? I doubt anyone would want to buy it. So how do you get it to the scrap yard ?

Cut into smaller pieces if you can't take it as it is.

I would break it up into bits that are actaully worth anything, then scrap the rest :)

Stripping is alright but your always left over with a shed load of bits that are worth money but there are no buyers after them at the moment. Personally i would fix it up, plenty of people after cheap track cars now so a bit of a missmatched front end wouldnt bother most. It allows you to get a quick turnaround with no crap left over cluttering the place up.

if its a 3plug ECU engine type you would already have a buyer for the engine, ecu, loom etc ;) ;)

When you say it's just the slam panel, bonnet etc.. Is it? Or is it wings and chassis leg/crossmember?

If it's cosmetic though.. most money in repairing and selling on, less hassle to.. Won't have millions of shity parts you can't shift hanging around forever that you've got to find a home for.

if you want to fix it i have all the body parts needed and in black.

as far as getting rid of the shell goes, take it to a metal recyclers and get some cash for it, stupid giving metal away for free.

even batteries and brake discs you get decent money for, about £4 a battery and £1 a disc.

Just out of interest how much do people usually get for splitting Saxos?

I sell the bare shells, either to gypsies or proper scrapyards. If its a rolling shell with abit of weight left to it then sell to scrapyards, if its a bareshell weighing not much then i sell it gypsies and watch them man handle it onto their dodgey lorry lolz.

to people thinking of breaking saxos i wouldnt recommend it.. Due to every tom dick and harry doing it these days the saxo market is shit.

Remember transportation costs of getting it to where ever you are going to break it.

sell to metal recyclers, not scrap yards. will get twice as much.
