Right im looking into getting my bike license in the near future. Im a noob at everything on the info and paper work side so from start to finish, how much will it cost (excluding lessons becuase i can ride and my aunties can show me where to look and stuff). Also when i pass im looking to get a mother of a fast bike...

EDIT - Like a 2000 plate Yam R1, but what is the age restriction? I know you have to be 18 for 125 or somthing like that .

Cheers

I don't know much about bikes, but I do know getting an R1 for your first bike is pretty much asking to die. :|!

Need a cbt, theory which is like 30-40 and ya practical which is about 90quid then you have to have your bike restricted to 33bhp for 1st two yrs. Or if your over 25 you can do direct access which is about 200 which includes everything then you dnt need to be restricted. Hope this helps :y:

And ffs be careful with an R1 mate if its your first road bike as they are fooking lethal...Dont want a sax-p thread R.I.P welshy23.

:wall: why does everybody say this? It doesn't really work like that mate....you can ride any bike as your first bike tbh (providing its legal for your age etc), it all depends how much of a dick you are when you get on it, if your a complete tool you could kill yourself on a 50cc

you will kill yourself on a R1 why dont you go for a R6 first although that is well quick

18-21 can still ride a hyabusa if you wanted, look up an A2 bike license, if your over 21 look at DAS

not many people will say that a 180 bhp bike is suitable for your very first bike, but I don't see the problem if your sensable, just watch out for gravel, cow shit and drain covers and your fine, hopefully...

Only problem with having an R1 is you will want to put the power down, and not sure how much bike riding you've done but the key to big bikes is you don't steer the bike, you keep the bike handlebars (yoke) straight and shift your body to the side you want to go and the bike will lean over to that side, and when cornering there is force you have to fight which makes it fun

You don't steer any bike, you always shift your weight around to corner, even on the 125's like the RS....try "steering" one of those under full throttle and you are going to end up in a ditch dead :n:

I've never had a 125 and think there flimsy as hell and won't ride one, so I'm used to other bikes lol

Meh...ive had a cagiva mito 125evo, and an RS125...looked after both and have been great :y:....but ye tbh the shifting weight rule applies to all bikes

Ive had alot of experience in handling bikes, on and off road. Its like anything though... even when you get a VTS people blast it... Just gotta think with your head and you'll be fine.

I done my licence 6 years ago so cant comment on the new way of getting it.

In fact you steer the opposite direction and hang off the bike when cornering ;)

And no offence by this. R1 for a first bike = suicide.

Fairplay man :) got for it. But they are lethal quick lol. Seriously, i stepped up from a 50, 125, 250 and now 600 (R6) and I was blown away by how mental the speed is. 600 is plenty quick enough for the road in my humble opinion lol.

R1s are mint, i would like one next year. Thing is all the best looking bikes are the quick ones! lol.

Back to your original question, in my day it was CBT, Theory and Practical (I done restricted access under 21) now I think is CBT, Theory, test on a smaller engine, then another test on a slightly larger engine. Some correct me?

Still rules apply at under 21 and over 21 its much more harder to get (Direct access)

Yes!!! totally, in all fairness i would not complain if i had any of the colours.. The all black 2010 version is absolute don.. Looks so mean, stealthy like! would be like a jet fighter, its already past you when you hear it haha! but the blue breaks it up a bit. Just a lovely bike all in all!

direct acess 21
or you can do the A2 when ur 17 but u will be restricted for 2 years 33bhp

also once u passed the direct acess you will automaticly be on probation for 2 years ( all new riders get this)

You want an r1 for your first bike...are you sure?

You have onbviously never riden a real bike, to understand the emmense power deliver of this thing! Hell yes i want one, and ive ridn one a few times! The front wheel pops up in all 6 gears with a little help from the clutch in6th the other five it will come up no fucking sweat!

I would urge you to put your sensible head on before thinkyeah, ill get one!

Get an r6, a few years experience, when you realise just what real power to weight means, you probs wont want an r1! As with a few teaks, and suspension mods you could leave an r1 standing on the right roads...if you decided to upgrade you would know what to expect...

But 190 bhp, in something that weighs all of 180kilo...

Feel free to join r6ers, the uk forum for all r series owners, tell them that, and let them tell you what for.

Im not trying to say, dont get one...
By all means do it, but be prepaired to have all mother of shit scared out of you when you go anywhere over 1/4throttle let alone full, and hit its power peak!
Dont open it up in the bends, till you have mastered opening it up in a straight line! And able to handle it on one wheel, last thing you want is to take a corner, apply the power, front wheel to lift whilst your still leaning over!...shut off the power at any stage, and that back end will come out, when the head starts to shake, power through it and relax, or its going to slide.

The back brake is your best friend, and the front your lover!

Get one, enjoy it... But remeber everytime you think about twitching that right wrist, nothing is around you!
Im just about to take my r6 on a 300 mile trip to visit a friend, so ill be on the motorway in the next hour having the time of my life!

Like i said im a noob at this shit :) i just love the look of the R1 its like if your not into the bike scene its the power ranger bike to get aint it!. My dad has a 1600cc harley and fuck me the thing makes one hell of a noise. In reality of course im not gonna get a R1 as my first bike! Like you said R6 it but a boy can dream ;). Ive had experience with scatty bikes i did ride quite a bit a year or so ago, i know its not the same power AT ALL as a R1 but we had a really old Yam Yz80 2 stroke and the power band kicked in when u pulled the throttle half way and not after a certain rpm so ov course if you where in the right rpm the bike would kick up and you'd either be on your ass or one wheel! haha. So is a R6 600cc? could i ride that at 19? or is this probation malark gonna shit over that?

R6 = 600 cc : R1 = 1000cc
mine, standard is 111.63bhp at the wheel, 122+ at the crank!
today i saw 168mph on the clock, with about 2.2k left to redline, let alone the limiter! i darent go faster, yet ;). at 120 mph you open it from half to full and it still pulls like a frikkin train! as the power band from 10k onwards, wel, see my thread with my dyno print out! it rockets up! so just imagine what the other 70 bhp at the wheel and the extra 300cc would do for you ;)

is that quick enough for you?. you need a starter, and as the saying goes, "power is nothing without control".
...im 20, 0 NCB (lost them for not using them quick enough) bike is on a 10 plate, i paid 1k for the insurance fully comp, if it was a year older or so, it would be about 300 quid! so insurance is affordable, even at your age, if you were to go for something like a 2000-2005 it would be pretty cheap!

i wouldnt say no, to someone planning on getting the R6 for a first bike, its abit more realistic than the 1! and as much as its still an animal, this one can be tamed!

just be aware of the price of other things, such as fairing, you drop it...which you will, all bikers do! and you can be looking at 500 to over a grand for just a piece of fucking plastic! tyres, you will go through them in about 3k miles, at 100-190 quid a tyre!
and dont piss about, leathers and a decent helmet... i get my stuff on trade or close to it, and i still paid 270 for my lid, and 500 for my leathers! 80 for gloves and 150 for boots!

tonto_VTR talks sense, can't argue with one word he has told you. 600cc is more than enough with your age/experience. Controlling the power is not everything, road riding experience is what you need.

Cant argue with a word tonto said tbf.
Protection is most important...I paid £300 helmet, £650 leathers (titanium pads etc, hump on back), £145 boots and £120 gloves :panic:

Then I binned the bike being a bit enthusiastic, found some shit on a bend and lost it, when I was in hospital I realised all the cash I splashed on the leathers etc just saved my life...was sore as fook, pissing blood etc, bit stiff for a few days...imagine if I had bought cheap crap :panic:

Whatever you get can be lethal if you act daft....but being on sax-p I know you will stay safe ;) lol...I was only on my 125, but still made a mess

If I was you, for a first bike id get a 400cc plenty of power in them, once you learn how to ride properly id go for a 600cc+

You can ride a 1000cc at 17 years old... but I wouldnt recommend it at all.

16 years old - 50cc - cbt - with L plate
17 years old - 125cc - cbt - With L plate
17+ Years old - 125-1000cc - full licence but restricted to 33bhp for the first two years

21+ plus direct access not sure what that is 'cause im only 18.

But to get your full licence -

CBT
Theory
Training Module 1
Training Module 2
TEST

I think all together It came up to a total of about £600 for me (round my area)

Hope this helps...

And Tonto you sun of a bitch I love your bike :( lol!

Hoping to get my cbr400 soon :D
