Hello! Ive had a search but didn't find anything useful - Just need to know if having my timing out very slightly on my 2002 VTR is a big problem or not and if it is - is it basically a new cambelt job again?
Thanks for any help,
James

It can be a problem since 8v's do not come with adjustable pulleys like 16v's do.
How do you know the timing is out?

Bit of a guess if im honest, either that or spark plugs I suspect..
Basically the problem I have is in mostly 3rd and 4th lower rev range - say 2k and accelerate slowly just to pick up speed and it isnt smooth at all - jerky forwards a bit then no acceleration and so on.. can happen for a few seconds at a time - seemingly mostly up hills.. On the right track dyou reckon?
Also has been idling poorly recently and when you blip the throttle sat still the revs can drop so far it cuts out :o!

try a coil pack and plugs first

if its the timing it will appear to miss in ver low revs , and will not rev up to 5-6 k smooth if that makes sence

Remove the MAP sensor and clean it up too - they can cause all sorts of misfire problems, especially on 3 plugs.
If you have no luck with that, support engine and remove ECU engine mount and crank pulley/ alternator belt. Remove the belt covers and lock the flywheel by inserting an allen key through the hole on the front of the block. If the locking hole for the cam pulley doesn't line up to allow a drill bit to put through, the timing is out.
