It's for the Special's mate..they're voluntary so they aren't cutting back on them at least lol.
I like to think I'd have an advantage if I got into the Special's, as by the time I would apply to the paid Police, I'd have a Law degree and time as a Special to boot..which would look extremely good imo.
Officers apparently do not need to be particularly knowledgeable in the law, as stupid as it's sound I've heard it from their own mouths, their job is to keep the peace and enforce order rather than be caught up in the 'law'.
Stupid I know, imagine it will help but I dunno :S.

Tbh, I aim to progress up the ranks fast, in the higher development scheme. I don't want to be an Officer who is just happy being a PC all his life.

I've been a special for 9months now and I love it. Once you pass the paper stage they'll invite you to an interview which will be with 2/3 people who'll ask you 6-8 questions. Learn the core competencies really well because they love that stuff.
Being a special will give you a huge advantage when they open recruitment for being a reg officer. Training in Leicester consisted of 10 weekends of 08:30-1600 of learning the law etc with lots and lots of role plays. They ask for you to do minimum 16hrs a month I usually do about 20-25.
You'll have something called a SCAP to work through as well. Really good fun though especially when you get your first Grade 1.
Any questions give us a shout :-)

good choice - in that scheme you get to take your sergeant etc exams quicker but you still have to pass, so dont fuck it up lol

I've always wanted to join the Police. I turn't 18 in July and have recently sent my application form to join the Specials. I heard the process of going through your application, doing checks and stuff can take a loooong time :n:
I'm looking forward to it though! My uncle was in the police for over 20 years and he absolutely loved it! He said that joining the Specials will definately give me a huge advantage in joining the Regulars when they start recruiting.
Good luck with it all mate! Let us know how you get on :y:
