i know lots about fiestas 8)
Rust on the rear wheel arches is most common along with the sills.
1.1's tend to be bullet proof but make sure it's got a decent service history.

The engines sound terrible, genuinely aweful. Tappety/rattly as fuck.

1.3 8v endura engines do, not so much the 1.1's if they've been looked after.

Heating system always fucks up. Have them all time in the garage saying there is a problem about heating and when it cold they dont wanna go out.

You can hear one coming forom a mile off with the tappets dancing on the roof and god awful noise.
Mate has a 1.3 w reg, and funnily enough he's just crashed it.

I like them with the xr or the rs kit on. My sister had one. Reliable as fuck, sounds like a skeleton having a wank in a biscuit tin though.
Chuck a yb lump in it and be a hero.

rust.......everywhere! Particularly when it has a kit on as they tend to trap water.
Areas to check: rear archs, panel below fuel filler cap, base of A pillars, sills, scuttle panels, front and rear valances.
The 1.4 my brother used to have didn't have self adjusting tappets and oh my G*D do they sound bad when they're out! We ended up doing them about once every two months to keep them somewhere near spec! Horrible thing!

On the topic of the enduras, theyre horribly slow, but my brother replaced a worn follower and it was deadly silent, but then the bottom end went...

I had a 1.1i foosty as my first car, had 188k on it and sounded like a derve, but still went well

I thought all mk3 fiestas were either scrapped, dead or horribly rotten

Obviously not, this one has 3 previous owners, 44k on the clock and looks spot-less.
I may have to keep an eye out for the rust though.
