With a name like McGuire you were always gonna be Catholic.
I actually agree with you though (and I'm not Catholicism's biggest supporter), pisses me off people jumping on this bandwagon, I know some terrible things have happened in the name of the catholic church.. (and every other faith), most recently the molestation of minors by priests, but it pisses me off when I hear on the news "The pope expressed extreme remorse, sadness, and shame for the catholic priest paedophile cases, but did not say the crucial words "I'm sorry".
That's why I fucking hate the media, they always fucking do that, he's saddened and remorseful for the crimes perpetrated by these priests, but he's not personally fucking responsible for the actions of every catholic/priest, he's not accountable, why does he have to say those two words "i'm sorry"?

It's about protection, if someone off a religious standing such as the popes from a different region were to visit and it was off the same calibre then the money would be spent on them too, besides, we have fuck all say in what are money is spent on anyway, they would do it regardless, can see your point, and tbh it could have been funded by the catholic church (aka the richest organisation in the world).
Also, think of the hassle from Catholics all over the world that the UK government would received had he been assassinated on our soil.
That's just a major arse ache that's easily avoided.

Just because im a Catholic doesnt mean Im a quiet little choir boy, probably quite the opposite tbh. I have my belifs, I believe in God yet theres some parts of the Catholic teachings I do not believe in and if Im going to be judged for that then so be it. But that is what free will is all about.
It just makes me sick so many people slag something off just because they dont believe in it, if I hear someone slag off my religion I lash out at them, physically most of the time. I tried not to reply over an internet fourm but I just couldnt hold back.
This country is the place where if I slag of an immigrant Im a racist or if I say my opinions about homersexuals I get called a homerphobic, yet people find it acceptable to slag of someones religion ? Thats just as bad as racism imo.
If you dont like Christianity fine, but people should keep their opinions to themseleves if they are just going to hand out petty comments.

But that's not the pope's fault. It's not like he's claiming to be invincible? the protection of himself isn't selfish, it's selfless, preservation of him is for the benefit of all cathloics, that's a loving thing to do. He can't prevent nutcases from trying to blow him up to cause grief too millions of people.

Yeah that is bullshit, "I'm religious but if you disagree with me I'll beat you up".
What I think he has to remember is people have a right to say what they want about whatever they want, and everyone has an equal right to be offended, but equally, he's allowed to say, and offend who he wants in retaliation, or just for the fuck of it, he shouldn't be excluded from that because of his religion.

In my opinion people seem to be so blinkered by their own faith and what they believe in they cant see the bigger picture.
The biggest problem is people dont seem to understand and respect each others faiths, they all feel their one is the one that makes you a good person and others are bad people (this is in the exteremeist view). People need to accept that others even within the same faith may interperate the 'book' differently to they do and that is what makes them feel fulfilled in life.
Commenting that religion is an excuse to cause trouble after openly admitting that you will fight with your fists if people dont agree with you are slate your religious views shows what catagory you fall into imo ;)

Lol, right lets try again.
When i saw this thread and read some of the comments it made me very angry. Im not saying i would 'fight with my fists' with everyone who disagrees with me ! Thats just stupid.
And again everyone can have their own opinion just like i can have mine, i respect that.
What i do not respect is the nasty comments, the 'christians are pedos' 'the pope should die' those sort of things are just way out of order, so if someone you were talking to turned round and called you a pedo for believing something wouldnt make you angry? I know exactly what I would do. Its those sort of people that I would probably get into a tussle with, thats all.
I know its hard for some people to understand how you can be religious yet not follow the whole teachings. But as you just said people can interperate it into how the feel is best for them, thats what free will is for.
Im not trying to force anything in anyones faces, I just wish people would try and see things from my prospective then maybe they would understand why certain things wind me up so badly :y:

I think they paedo comments are directed to the many catholic priests and suchlike that sexually assault children..

My friend is catholic, she attends mass twice a week. But she is a shit Catholic. She drinks, smokes, has sex outside of marriage, swears... we have the religion conversation quite a lot, about how she is picking the parts she wants and disregards the rest of it. But she never wants to fight me about it.... Think that is just a sign of your personality rather than how religious arguments make people feel.
What people forget is that to some the faith is just something to help them accept the way life is (almost to blame for some things).
I dont see what is wrong with being part holy, if you are not preaching to others about the faith, accepting how everyone else is but having something to help you through dark times because it is what may make you a better person to others.
Its when you preach about things but contradict yourself in the process where you are just a narrow minded buffoon

That just says a lot about you doesn't it. It's quite obvious that you're not all kiddy fiddlers, so if you can't take the banter then just ignore it. As I said, I see so much Muslim hatred, hearing people saying they should all be bombed. Yes, it makes you angry, but I would never consider violence, that's just pathetic IMO.
Also, no one said they wanted the pope dead. Lol

So what about chrisitanity being a peaceful reigion and the imfamous quote 'turn the other cheek'???
You are not respecting other peoples opinions if you are getting into a tussel over it, especially when there is alot of pedo jokes about. Same as when any other event happens throughout the world such as the floods in india/pakistan.
You may disagree and be upset but the bigger man isnt the one who wants to use his fists.

True, but theres only so much one person can take, maybe my tolerance levels aren't as high as someone else's.
Ok well let me rephrase that, I respect peoples opinions to a certain extant when I would say enough is enough.
And again you're right when saying Christianity is a peaceful religion and violence is not one of its teachings, but not everyone is the same.
Another thing people have to understand which alot of people in this thread are probably missing, is some people dont just choose to believe or not. I dont just wake up and think ok im going to believe in God. You cant explain it, but you believe because its definite to you, I believe its there and cant accept no other way.

I have some very strong religous friends (sodding CU presidents etc.. lol).
It is ultimately a choice to believe or not still. Like I said earlier, people believe as it makes them feel better in life, but everyone is educated enough to form their own opinions which is why even very strong families have issues when the young one decides they dont believe in the preachings.
I had one person who was really OTT. I had great pleasure with her and her preaching when the large hadron collider started off proving the big bang theory :D

When its common knowlege several priests have taken advantage of children, and there has been alot of coverage on the matter there allways will be jokes about it
Differenciating between those and a personal insult is something you decide
Who knows maybe someone making the comments may have been a victim earlier in life.

i dont get religion tbh, but its peoples right to talk about it how they want and i have the same right, if i want to disagree with it i will and if people want to call me a sinner or anything else for that matter then so be it, its not like either party is obliged to take any notice. the exreme ends of any religion are the ones who bring negativity towards them, i think people should take things with a pinch of salt and not tar everyone with the same brush, meaning not all muslims are suicide bombers and not all catholics are paedophiles. saying that i dont beleive any religion in the slightest and probably never will. also the popemobile is gash
