England squad:
Paul Robinson (Tottenham), David James (Manchester City), Robert Green (Norwich); Gary Neville (Manchester United), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), John Terry (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Arsenal), Sol Campbell (Arsenal), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Wayne Bridge (Chelsea); David Beckham (Real Madrid), Michael Carrick (Tottenham), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Owen Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham); Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Michael Owen (Newcastle), Peter Crouch (Liverpool), Theo Walcott (Arsenal).
Stand-by: Scott Carson (Liverpool), Luke Young (Charlton), Nigel Reo-Coker (West Ham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Andy Johnson (Crystal Palace).
I would have taken Nolan and Parker instead of Jenas and Hargreaves,
Wes Brown and Ledley King should have been selected ahead of Campbell and Carragher
And how can Jermaine Defoe and Andy Johnson be on standby instead of Darrent Bent, and Shaun Wright-Phillips should be on standby imo.

Definatly lilttle old shawn wright phillips. In my opinion I think his a quality little player. Yea I admit the team is a bit suspect with some of the picks sven has chosen. I think he has no love for the game nor the country anymore.
Im furious Parker isn't uncluded in the squad....what does he have to do to get a chance!
Ledley king should be in and the Tank Sol Campbell should be on standby

Sol is dodgy and hasn't given a solid performance since his return. I agree he should be on standby. Crouch, I do not rate should definatly be bent in my opinion. Still got to chher the boys on tho and show your support. smileys/smiley17.gif
how can they take crouch hes shit
droopster
8th May 2006, 20:15
Crouch should have definatly not been going, I agree crouch is absolute pony. smileys/smiley7.gif Although he did score for england and set up the other. Still not good enough on average.
first time ive seen the team! a few surprises there, cant believe king and defoe have been left out, i can see us really struggling for forwrds in this world cup i thought defoe would have been a certain with his pace. ive yet to see walcott, what has he done to deserve a place?? hes not even played an england game. im glad as a boro fan downing was included. hes a good crosser of the ball.
wright phillips has suffered since his move to chelsea and lost out because of it

We are definatly going to be struggling for goals I think. Who is going to win do you think if England do not??? Im undecisive at the moment and can't make my mind up.
Rooney is key for the world cup if we're going to get anywhere....only other target man is Owen who i doubt will be at his best...
if that fails were lookin at Lampard, Cole and Gerrard to score our goals

Well it's very unlikely king's going to be fit for starters. Carragher has been absolutely outstanding for liverpool this season and he's very versatile playing at the back, so he was a dead cert.
Campbell is on his way back and proovides much experience so i don't see why theres any argument regarding them 2.
Im surpirsed defore or bent aren't included, walcott is a bit special but is still very young and unproven to be included really...
I also would have said nolan isn't upto the level of the midfielders currently in the side. I think it looks quite a good and rounded squad. Do remember too that this is PRELIMINARY. Theres about 3 more weeks until the official squad's named.

Last time walcott played 90 minutes it was against the mighty QPR and he was shackled by danny shittu and george santos. I was at the game and he didnt look anything special hope he proves me wrong...
Get Owen fit and play Gerrard off Owen up front only chance of scoring
Doesnt look too bad, I would have taken defoe though. Suprised to see downing in there but very please he is.

wtf is wallcott doing there he hasnt played for arsenals first team yet
fuck sven off now and get mclaren in
defoe and bent should be there
glad carricks in, but i agree nolan should be there
walcott is a suprise, you never know tho, altho havingnot played a game for arsenal yet, it is a bit random.
very glad downings in there, just think in a year or 2 there will be alot of boros young english lads in the squad
Thre must be potenstial with walcott otherwise he wouldent have been picked... give him a chance.
It's not like we have a lack of options, defoe should be in there though i think thats a damn stupid decision. The way england play now bores me, it used to be exciting when was a unit/team but now its just a bunch of celebraties trying to hit the headlines for the right reasons and not the wrong.
We need a manager whats going to make them play as a team again e.g mclaren

you must be joking jonesy!! Wes Brown ahead of Carragher?? WTF you on about? Carragher is a rock in defence and can play any defensive position, ie left/right/centre. Wes Brown is shite and he hasn't got te leadership that carragher has. It will be up to carragher and terry to keep the defence in check.
Walcott!! what a joke! as far as im aware he hasn't played once since he joined arsenal has he?
Haha Lennon as well?? this team sounds mighty fooked up if you ask me

Quote Sven " I haven't seen Walcott play yet".....WTF! I'm sure he's very good, but to pick an untried player ahead of Defoe, Bent or even Fowler is stupid. I doubt he'll even get on as a sub.
No King on the basis he's injured....... but he's taking Rooney in the hope he will be fit for the final. I'm sorry but we're not going to make the final. At least taking a fit, proven goalscorer might get us somewhere near.
Still, at least Phil Neville isn't going...... smileys/smiley5.gif

being a spurs fan i cant believe they aint playing defoe! its really suprised me, he has done so much for spurs this season. Also i thought Rooney was too injured to play anyway. I think its a bit of a shite England team to be honest

my thought entirely, hes never played in the premiership, how many players look good in the "championship" come up to the premiership and are nothing? Defoe for Walcott and Bent for Crouch, get rid of Hargreaves for Parker imo

Sol Campbells has been terrible since coming back from injury and if Woodgate could stay fit I would definitely play him and Terry at the back. Carragher has been rock this season as well mind. As for the central midfield. Some obvious includsions but how the hell can Jermaine 'Goldfish bowl' Jeans get in te team ahead of Nolan? The same up front.. Bent has been banging the goals in all season, yet he's ousted by someone who has yet to play first team football for Arsenal. Granted Walcott shows glimpses of being a special talent but if players are to go on merit Bent should be in the squad and Defoe in place of Crouch. Gld to see Aaron Lennon in there though. He has been class for Surs.
I reckon it's all a con and Rooney is fit. Have a tenna on him playing against Paraguay, a tenner against trinidad a tenner against sweden and a fiver he plays in the tournament at all, all at 12-1, dso here's hoping the fat bas*ard gets fit in time!!
Anyone reckon we can win it?

We've all seen the speed and talent that Walcott has got so why not live on the edge and give him a chance. If he plays badly he plays badly. If he plays well then he could be the difference between goin gall the way or not.
Sven gets blamed for not being adventurous with his choices and then gets blamed for being too adventurous with his choices. I like the fact that he's choosen him and what a great oppurtunity it is for Wilcott to prove to everyone that he can hack it on the international stage.

Its disrespectful to Bent and Defoe if you ask me. I guess it is just a provisional squad however, and only 13 or 14 players will even get a game so it will be good experience for Walcott. I think he has only been taken for his pace, but that will frighten a lot of foreign defenders who prefer the slow tempo of their leagues. I'd still get Defoe in the squad though. See his finish at the weekend?

walcott is an unknown quantity in international football. Opposing defenders wont know how to deal with him!

9th May 2006, 11:15
Thats if Wallcott gets played. I think we'll do well and stand a chance in winnning it. I think Sven has made some bold decisions that will be proved in the outcome of the world cup (obviously). I have faith in England but not in Sven (as much)

owen hargreaves is a great player for munich, just because we dont see him week in, week out. also i woulda took Joey Barton instead of Jenas lol
**edit** and also why have a 17yr old as i wildcard i dont understand...
id much prefer to see somone like Dave Nugent of PNE, or Marlon King from watford be picked
but Walcott could be a flop, or an absolute delight to watch
droopster

Yea because nobody has seen him play nobodu knows what to expect. He moved to Arsenal for 12million and hasn't played. His got to be half decent if he cost that much.lol. I think we should give him a chance at the early stages and who knows what could come out of it. Could be zero to hero. smileys/smiley17.gif
