just woke up this morning to find a £60 fixed penalty fine for my number plates. I mean thats the first time i seen police giving tickets at 1am whilst i was asleep.
Any one on here have experience of this? and do you think they took pictures of the plate to prove it, if not ill take this to court as they cant prove it

whats 'wrong' with your plate?
RossRog
23rd September 2010, 08:57

If it was on your driveway i can't see any reason why they could of fined you... if it was on the road then your own fault for wrong plates.

Comments like this just prove how pathetic the feds are getting.
Its abit over the top doing it while you're asleep and not in the car etc lol. If theyre not legal then you cant test it though.
Are you sure theyre ilegal plates and not them BS marked pressed plates which are legal?

They would have got pictures mate, and if you did try it and they had proof you didnt know about then youd be wasting police time etc.
Like poeple have said, if the car is off the road and on private land like a driveway they cant do anything.
Get some BS pressed plates, replace them and be like yo i got bs stamp?

even without pictures im sure their word against yours in court would prevail mate, might be worth taking the hit and changing the plates to stop future fines

I saw our dear friends from the local police snooping on cars in my street once, at 3.30 in the morning. Watched them from my window until they went to my car and took their time going around, up and down, checking tyres, reg plate etc.
So I went out, gave them "Good morning officers, may I help you ?". "Is this your car, sir ?". " Yes it is. As I said, may I help you ?". So they said no thanks and went back to their patrol cars.
Not impressed at seeing how my council tax is spent. Like foxes, you don't see them during the day.
fine for my number plates
I'm afraid that it was something bound to happen at some point, day or night. People open new threads regularly on here to mention they got fined and it's not worth it. Now on the other hand, don't they have better things to do at night. By that better than something they could do during daytime.

Maybe they just really liked your car and wanted a better look?
Manu

I believe it's not a matter of what they like. My car wasn't the only one to be inspected. I'm pretty sure they weren't dribbling over a standard reg plate on a saxo ;)
They can come and talk to my face 24/7, no need for such big brother bullshit.

Maybe they liked cars in general and liked looking at them alot on streets.
Manu

Maybe. They really seemed to love one of my neighbours rusty 25 year old fiat too. And last week, the dvla was giving yellow triangular wheel enhancement devices.

Maybe they appreciated the rust so much they didnt want it being stolen to order, so clamped it to prevent it from being stolen?

Very likely. You gotta love the police. Protecting the neighbourhood 24/7. At your service ma'am

To be fair, it is pretty low to fine you whilst you are not driving the car.
However, at some point you were going to get pulled over anyway
If they are illegal, change them :)
Take it as a learning curve

Ye no tax, was at the bottom of a dead end road near mates house, couldn't leave it on drive for the time we were in Spain wasnt being driven or anything. Our own fault it got towed but still crushing a car after 4 days..... Good job it was only worth £500
Manu
23rd September 2010, 10:26
exactly why I parked my car on private land, as I had to wait for the insurance certificate before I could buy a tax disc. I didn't take any chances with them vultures. There are good sides to this scheme but what happened to you is definitely unfair.

That's pathetic! They should hold onto them alot longer. Like you said though it is your fault it go towed but you would have thought they would have waited for some contact between you both

i thought they gave you a week to get the car back if you wanted it and as looney said i think they should have some sort of commnication between you and the police to see if want the car back or if they can crush it and not just crush the car without your consent yes it was on the road but its like they took your property and crushed it they wouldn't do that with a house no council tax paid o lets crush it with a big crane its madness now a day

I dislike cops for this reason. They dont patrol the streets for CRIMINALS but will check cars for plates :S. However, they did not find my phone and iPod from when i got robbed, OR James May's tele that was robbed from his house ;). They'll sit back and watch the money roll in.
The other night there was 4 of em sat on the corner of a sliproad from a medium sized round bout doing fuck knows what. What a waste of police time.

You must have very arsy police by you lol.
I have black and silver pressed plates front and rear, ive been followed by police and they havent said anything; but i have the front plate in the boot and the rear plate is on underneath the black one, so should they ask me to remove them just remove black one

A bit of common sense might help you realise CID are probably more suited to finding rapists.

Theres one of them on the loose by me, i posted thread about it other day. As its right in the middle of about 5 schools etc police aint doing much.

Doesn't stop it from being a petty 'crime'.
Just because it's against the law, it doesn't mean it's morally wrong, rape is morally wrong, numberplates aren't :/. Not in the same league? Which is why they have different punishments, except, this is bullshit, like what kind off numberplates you have doesn't make you a bad person (it also doesn't make it not a crime), but do you believe all laws and punishments are just? The word of the government and police is gospel?

Do you not break the law in any way?
Did you wait till you was 18 before you started drinking? Have you ever been 1mph over the speed limit? Did you have sex before you was 16?

I was stopped for my number plates on my ZX6-R because the plate had a logo in the background, after telling the officer that's how I bought the bike from the dealer and it passed it's MOT's with it they started looking for otherthings but found nothing wrong with the bike and let me go on my way
Your best to phone up the officer who gave you it, and find out why he did it

I got pulled over yesterday after gym and got my car proper searched over, they searched it for drugs, weapons etc and then started banging on about me having no rear seats etc

So, because it's a petty crime, you expect the police to ignore it? Where do you draw the line for when you see the police as doing a worthwhile job? Illegal plates, no MOTs, no insurance, drink driving?

Illegal plates is nothing like Drink driving. Drink driving can and will kill, plates hurt no one

i can accept it if the plates are unreadable, as this maybe hiding other offences, for just pressed plates seems harsh.
I had pressed plates for 2 years, never pulled, never any issues even when i was talking to policemen from inside my car.
if they are going out looking for this type of thing then they need to sort out their prioritises imo. i would prefer they cut the speed camera/guns and had people crack down on dangerous driving, inherently more dangerous.
