ok well i just took the vts out for a spin, as its nice weather. i was goin down a dual carriageway when there were bout 4 bikes covering both lanes, i was doin the limit, and they wouldnt let me past, then they all had to move into my lane, so i let them , then they all moved into the slower lane for me to go, but they all thought " ha who is this chav in a saxo" and naturally i thought " wt are these mid life fat wankers up to " .so...

gixxer 750 = 141hp 83nm torque and weighs 166kg (dry weight) so we'll call it 200 kgs (with fluids, oil, petrol ect) to give you a chance which equates to 705hp per tonne. this is for a k1 gsxr 750 so if it was a newer one.....well you do the maths

Bikes are not point and squirt, infact, you leave your wheel straight when conering, using your bodyweight to get it round a corner, getting knee down is very hard to judge where it's safe to do so, quickshifting, and wheelieing is not as easy as people think, I did a tank wheelie and when I landed it was nearly thrown off when bike came up because of oil on road

Big-boy bikes are not easy to ride as people think when it comes to riding fast, so don't assume what you don't know untill you ride one, as my ZX6-R wiped 350bhp scoobies no problem and I only had it standard with a D&D exhaust

I'm not a huge fan of bikes, they are more fun (/dangerous), and I do think quite a few off them drive like cocks, however I do like their philosophy - People who ride bikes often enjoy going for a ride just for the sake off it, too enjoy it, something you don't find in many car drivers. But then again it comes down to numbers, there are far more cars than bikes, because obviously the majority of people have cars they see as transport and nothing else (although perhaps status cars), so when you do see a bike being driven by a mentalist it sticks with you more than a Chav in a Saxo, because they're two a penny. This thread cracked me up when I first read it. It's people with the attitude of the author of the O.P that give saxo's a bad name.
I'll be perfectly honest here I like saxo's and in fact are getting one next week but I've been putting it off for years because of the stigma of chavved up boy racer cars and chavs that drive them and the first poster kind of pretty much sums this reasoning up.

I'm a fan of bikes although I must admit I've never thought of having one because I don't have the skills needed to safely ride one and I don't want to become another statistic.
Because of the respect I have for bikers if I see one in my rear view mirror I ALWAYS indicate left then wave them past. Nothing scares me more tan being responsible for the death of an innocent biker because I didn't take 2 seconds to move out of their way.
Admittedly I don't wlways get a hand raised or even an acknowledgement (sp) but that doesn't mean I'd ever wish they'd all go and die.

So in ummary I think the person that started this thread needs to take a long hard look at themselves and see that YOU are the reason saxo drivers get a bad name. We're not all narrow minded individuals like yourself so perhaps you should come back when you've got a more mature outlook on life

I witnessed a motorcyclist getting knocked off his bike a couple of weeks ago.
It was one of the worst things I have ever seen!

I was on my way home in the morning and I was keeping the distance from the bike infront of me as I always do and he wasn't speeding atall I could see this car coming up the slip road and the car went over the hatch markings speeding and the biker tried to brake and move but as on a bikes its not easy to turn the car just drove right into the bike and he came flying off and hit the central reservation and the bollards on the other side of the road.
I felt phsyically sick!
I pulled over and got out my car and called 999 straight away.
Every other person in car were just driving past me not giving a care in the world cos they obvilously had their narrow minds on and thinking the motorcyclist was going fast when it wasn't even his fault.
I stayed with him and was nearly crying, it was horrible.
When the ambulance got there it turns out he was a man aged 28 just on his way to work and because of some idiot in a car he now won't walk, drive or ride again!
Hes lucky to even be alive!
He thanked me for saving his life!

Next time you see a bike even if its some chav on moped acting like an idiot just ignore it and try to put yourself in the situation of if you were a biker and you got given that name and some twat tried to knock you off and you weren't able to walk again.

Saxo's are not fast... Be it a VTS running 160bhp or a standard VTS. They're nippy, but not fast. You need to drive a proper car if you think a Saxo's fast.

17 years old, you can sit your test, A2, restricted to 33bhp but any cc for 2 years..."restricted" though its easily removable lol...(or till you 21, what ever comes first)
21+ direct acess, pass, and jump on any thing you like, with no power restrictions!

i did my test when i was 17, so had to be restricted... needless to say that didnt last longer than a few weeks! jumped through a masive list of bikes, from bandit 600, SV650, GSXR 600, ZX6R, took a year out, to get my car, now back with the R6... which blows me away every time im on her!

i hate RS125s lol... nothing else to say on that matter!

Imo it comes down to the driver thinking, omg! I cant believe he did that...when the rider thought, that gap is huge ill just nip through.

Thing is 2% of road users are bikes, just two! So you see one bike riding fast, or filtering thorugh traffic! Its easier to judge, and think of what a cock!
Every day you see hundereds of cars doing the same thing, day in day out, and think it the norm, when if it was under test conditions everyone you drive past on the way home would be failing....

totally agree mate, i have the use of both have been driving cars for years and bikes so know the roads and how to read them pretty well myself, know what other road users are going to do before they do it..........its kind of an art really lmao :P

I havnt read the full thread but a few things i just want to clear up are:

Track prepared 1000cc bikes are usually just road bikes with track fairings, lower gearing, race pipes and a power commander. Most of the jap litre bikes with this on will be about 180bhp tops, ie a hawk kawasaki prepared 06 ZX10r was 163bhp at the rear wheel with said mods done to it that we looked after.

You will find the only production bikes that knock on 210bhp are full factory WSB bikes, and no one can afford one of those to run as a track day bike!

Also motogp 800's are 145kg wet minus fuel and the rider. with fuel and the rider on board you can expect the train weight to be over 200kg.

As for the car vs bike debate. you will find most bikes with an average rider vs a fairly fast supercar with an average driver are about a minute slower than the car around the ring. Fastest laps suggest that a standard road bike vs a standard road legal supercar is about 20 seconds slower than the car around there.

As for a cbr400 vs a noble m12/m400 - not a cheeky chance in hell. I've been in a noble and ive ridden no end of 400's and a noble will do 0-60 in 3 seconds and out handle most road cars, not to mention bikes period. You will find the driver was driving spiritedly, but was grown up enough not to push a rider on a learner bike with a pillion passenger that had long hair.

So for the record, to the average joe, a bike on the road is faster than a car on the road. But round a track, a road car and road bike with average joe drivers are going to sway towards the car. But, as soon as racing comes in. Cars are faster than bikes and there is nothing you can argue about it. Be it motogp vs f1, super karts vs super bikes, or top fuel drag series. The cars ARE faster.

Bikes require more skill though by far, put rossi in an f1 car and he will put in lap times that will qualify him for an F1 race about mid feild. Put schumacher on a ducati and he will stack it without going fast enough to break mid feild.

Id never ride another bike on the road though, as demonstrated by the OP - you need to have a death wish if you decide a road bike is for you.

I havnt read the full thread but a few things i just want to clear up are:

Track prepared 1000cc bikes are usually just road bikes with track fairings, lower gearing, race pipes and a power commander. A 900rr isnt something to shout about either. Most new 600's create more peak power and are better in just about every respect.

Motogp bikes are prototype machines. They dont come 'from stock' as you say, they arent based on any production bikes at all so arent stripped of fuck all. they are built from the ground up as a bespoke racing machine.

They weigh 145kg wet (ie with oil and coolant) but that weight does not include fuel and a rider as you suggest. With a full tank of fuel, and a 65-70kg rider they will weigh considerably more than 145kg. This is called the TRAIN weight, when you take into account full tanks and payloads.

An RS250 road bike weighs 145kg for god sake, how the hell do you think you could get a gp bike to have a train weight the same as one of those?

We were on good terms with griff from aprilia racing, and we had been the aprilia centre that ran the RS250 challenge, rs125 challenege and rsv challenge bikes for aprilia in the past. So when it came to the SXV project, we were given the honours of working alongside alice racing to build, look after and maintain most of the SXV's in the british championship, as well as run our own team too. Then when i left there, an australian rider who tested with us for a few months was racing in the spanish rounds for ktm and asked me to go over there and be his mechanic for the season. Its not what you know, just who you know and keeping a good reputation for what you do.

I'll put pics on when im home tonight mate. It's had some work done at stan stephens. Its quick...for a 125. it is by no means a rapid bike. But for a 125 is quick, not seen many 125s that stick with it but then alot are now 4stroke etc and pull shit. I know its still only a 125 tho lol. I agree that my bike does have a bad rep because of kids that ride them (only 20myself), but I know my limits and the bikes limits. Had crossers since I was 5 aswell :A:
Unfortunatly know a few people who have had bad accidents (grandad and few lads at work). Also unfortunatly know 2 people that have lost their lives because of idiots in car :( hence the rants in this thread

My input to this thread is....

Bikes are fast, but are not the end of the world. To ride a bike, especially at speed, you must have alot of skill, but yet again, it's not the hardest thing to ride for racing. WRC demands alot more concentration and skill, to be able to throw a car around a course the way they do is just beyond tbh. I love the look of a bike, but I am only just now really getting into them as I had no interest untill a year ago...

The OP, is however, a loser in so many ways. He was losing an argument then resorted to shitty name calling and slagging off someone daily runabout when it had no regard as to what he was initially talking about in the first place. A vts with breathing mods and cams are not going to sit with a 750cc bike on a dual carraigeway, EVER!! Around a tight cornered track, it isn't an impossibilty however. Alot of people on this site have track prepped saxo's that could dick on bikes on track, but for him to sit there and say that he can sit with/beat his uncles race prepped bike is just a stupid immature response to a dying battle of an argument with someone who rides a fair powered bike as it is.

Not any more, i work for a firm called national road planing. The bike trade, esp the road bike trade is on its arse. Even in racing money is becoming tighter and if i did work for a race team i'd be on shit money. I cant earn what i get with NRP doing anything to do with bikes anymore so its a case of go where the money takes me.

I went to spain because the uk race project ended and i was stuck at an aprilia main dealers who just used me for my knowledge and paid me a pittance knowing full well i needed the money so couldnt leave untill the spanish rounds came up. A season in spain working with ktm was a pretty good experience in its own right though. I even sneaked over to aprilia a couple of times and gave them a little bit of advice that i had learned in the uk.

I dont ride on the road anymore, when you work for a main dealers that supply most of the aprilia community in a 100 mile radius, you get to know your customers. When i was at the last dealers i worked at, 4 of our good customers died in separate incidents just over one summer, and 5 or 6 were either in intensive care or had sustained injuries that would stay with them for life. My problem is that im not a leisure rider, if i get on a fast bike i wring its neck like it was intended to be ridden. And if a member of the driving community doesnt cause a hazard to throw me into an oncoming hgv, then ill only push too hard and do it myself. The age old saying 'you arent going fast enough unless you crash now and then' is one that unfortunately is stuck in my head and comes out every time i get on a bike.

The last bike I had was a 2002 R1 and i sold it just before i went to spain, when i got back and got my job with nrp, i thought to myself having a road bike and either dying, crashing and seriously hurting myself or loosing my licence which are all inevitable if you ride one like it is supposed to be ridden. and all of them would cost me my job or worse, so its not worth loosing 40-50k a year over just to have a road bike (although im seriously tempted with an SXV550)

I am on the look out for an RS250 to rebuild from the ground up to gp spec and use on track days, but ill never bother with another road bike. Even valentino rossi says that people who ride on the road are mental.

ok well i just took the vts out for a spin, as its nice weather. i was goin down a dual carriageway when there were bout 4 bikes covering both lanes, i was doin the limit, and they wouldnt let me past, then they all had to move into my lane, so i let them , then they all moved into the slower lane for me to go, but they all thought " ha who is this chav in a saxo" and naturally i thought " wt are these mid life fat wankers up to " .so...
they thought it would be epic to boot it leavin me dead. only this time i was not a chav in a saxo, as you boys no its a " well sorted vts" ;) and i went passed 3 of them to their surpise, for those that have seen my car at trax or fcs , its as best performance ya can go without forced induction and does go well, anyway the wanker at the front thinks hes left me for dead but by this time i am almost level, and both approaching a slow car In left lane, so he jus pulls out, makin me swerve, opposite look and all, at a fair speed ;) nearly wipin out his mates who were in the saxo dust. this has happened before and their are only two things i can do ....

well said. i have a GSX-R 600 and i have a saxo. its the person on the bike who mite be a dick. not all bikers.. before i bought a saxo if i saw 1 i automatically thought prick.. but since buyin 1 and being here you see things diffrently.. as for keeping up.. seriously? i have a mildly tuned 600 and it will get to 170mph in about 20 somethin seconds 81mph in 1st gear. a turbo'd saxo wouldnt touch it. as for cyclists they dont pay road tax so its fine to kill them.. they have no feelings..
