After some very wishful thinking i've decided to go against doing any more to the Saxo now and go for something with alot more power and looks and comfyness, my mate has just bought a 182 Clio and i am in love with it if im perfectly honest :).
Been looking on Autotrader/Ebay and you can pick a 2003/2004 plate 172 with less than 70k miles for round about 3/4 grand.
Anyways does anyone own one on here???.
Richard.

expect about 35-37 mpg. They're quite expensive to run (higher tax bracket too £235 iirc), it does eat a lot of front tyres unless you drive it sensibly 100% of the time. Common faults are mainly electrical like airbag lights that seem to have a life of their own.

Mine is fine so far get about 35mpg round town and up to 45 on a motorway run.
Engine mounts are common as are the exhausts rusting and steering wheels melting.

I've had my 172 cup about 6 weeks, as said MPG isn't all that bad, I get around 40 which is both town and duel carriageway.
Also make sure the Cambelt & Aux belts are already done, luckily Specialists will do a 172 cup for around £250-£300 if it hasn't got Aircon, but if its a Cliosport with Aircon be prepared to pay around £450-£500, so you're better off getting one which has already had it done.

my pals one is falling apart quicker than my saxo, cambelt is expensive, his electrics do some weird things, very easy to buy a clocked example, pull a certain fuse and the milage doesnt go up

Why use Italics?
I'm not even going to bother reading what you wrote.
Why are you writing in Italics?
My thoughts exactly, people should start getting infractions for doing this, pissing me off now.

I got a 182 full fat with both cup packs a few weeks ago they just feel like a better made version of a vts tbh and as mines is the non cup it has leathers, xenons, ac, etc
Like said if you go for a air con version then timing belt is £500 odd to get done and loads of garages do the job wrong by not using the genuine locking tools. Check the head gasket too as the bolts apparently stretch I found it out the hard way :(

My 172 was riddled with electrical problems, especially with the immobiliser, meaning the car was stationary until it decided to start working again, which could be between 1 hour and 3 days...
Wipers came on on their own, lights wouldn't turn off...
Shame really because it was a nice little car otherwise...

How come when i saw '172' and that you had posted i knew the words 'but it' or 'buy mine' would be involved :homme:

Mixed reactions then on the 172 then, with the italic writing.. each to their own i feel, just a sad cunt for moaning about it, it doesnt make it harder to read so why moan :y:.

What 172 are you looking at? Ph1 or ph2 or ph2 cup?
Italics are a bit harder to read I find, what's wrong with normal font?

Phase 2 dude but i dont mind the 172 cup but it's the interior what i dont like on them :/, if they come with the standard leather/sude seats i would look into them, 6.7 secs 0-62 and 141 mph top speed :D.

My borther bought a 02 plate 172 earlier in the year, drove it a few times and think its quite good however like all clios the seating postion is shite.. you feel like your going to fall out of the window.
His has had a few problems, the alarm went tits up when he bought the car and noone could fix it however after i jacked it up in the air to work on the rear brakes its never done it since. The exhaust also rusted out and fell off but thats more wear and tear than a problem imo.
Servicing however imo is fucking horrendus and that was ktec not even main dealer prices..

As for the steering wheel the grip things where your thumbs go are bollocks, theyd do my head in on a long trip flopping about..
Pair of buckets and a aftermarket wheel the clio could be a epic car.
