Has anyone had any experience in the past where these two have been involved trying to get money recovered from you?
They are hassling me for money I should not owe having sent plenty of evidence to SLC which clearly shows I finished my course and should not have to pay this "grant" back.
Thanks
Rob

You don't pay Grant's back anyway, they are provided by the Government if your combined household income is under £39,000.
So that's bollocks for a start.
The one you pay back is the one labeled "maintenance loan"

I know but they are trying to say that I should pay it back as they think I finished early.

Bollocks. Grants are granted, loans are loaned. Tell them to shut the fuck up. If they don't, citizens advice will remind them to shut the fuck up.

so let me get this straight to put my mind at ease.
Even if I finished early which I didn't they can't ask for money back anyway?
If this is the case why are they asking for it back? As it isn't a loan.

In some cases they can ask the University for levels of attendance and If they feel you did not attend consistently they can ask for it back I'm affraid :n:

I must be fecked then as we never took registers anyways.
But I did attend over 85% of my lessons.

So what are you worried about? Grow some balls. If that was me I would litterally tell them to shut the fuck up, and put their man hours to good use. They don't say peep when they lose people's application forms and passports.

Someone I know went to Uni and didn't attend nearly all year but passed the year.
The SLC always request a confirmation of attendance form (I know this since once my Uni lost it and the SLC tried to reclaim my tuition fees).
The data also get's passed onto your local Civic Centre because they handle the grants and the SLC handle the maintenance loan. Your civic centre work out earnings etc to decide whether or not you are entitled or not.
If they receieve the confirmation of attendance letter and they are not satisfied with your level of attendance they have the right to claim it back.
If you don't have evidence to prove otherwise it looks pretty bleak.
If I was you I would get straight in contact with your University and/or programme leader for advice.

Smith & Lawson, really do hassle you.
They rang me back up in may saying they want me too pay back my 10k Tuition fees all in one go, even though I earn under the Threshold so I don't even have to pay it back yet.
Took about 1-2 months to finally get them to accept that I earn under the threshold.
They don't seem to stop at anything.

I know someone who applied to uni, attended on the first day, collected the first loan/grant package and fucked off. Came back following year, did the same. Came back again the year after, did it again. And is now finishing a 3rd after pulling that stunt off.
I'm still wondering how he achieved that.

i work for SLC mate
SLC are infact passing on some of the older debt to debt recovery companies,so even if your under the income threshold, you'll be asked to pay it back, its all in the small print that no one ever ever reads
if you get your loan+grant but DO NOT complete the full year,ALL of your grant MUST BE PAID BACK,End of story
contact your LEA(Local council)to make sure they have had a letter from your uni saying you did complete the year,OR your awards certificate showing you did complete the year, they are at their busyest atm(LEA+SLC) so it will take some time
Aly,you need to update some of your fact's+figures mate ;)
LEA's deal with ALL of the funding,as in maintenance loans and grants as they carry out the assesments
