Chris
11th May 2006, 13:35
Neither.... LOL

Not the biggest fan of Golfs apart from the most recent GTI or the old R32.

Why don't you try and Audi or a Seat?

yep golf definatly..thats the 1.8T right? They compare to Focus RS's and Astra VXR's. Correct me if I'm wrong though smileys/smiley11.gif

Lol average price for golf gti = £8k - £10k. Average price for R32 mk4 = £17k - £20k (plus higher insurance costs). But if you can save for the R32 do it! Fucking fast (v6 3.2) n fucking gorgeous. That or the Clio V6 smileys/smiley2.gif

focus rs or vxr would spank the mk4 golf so hard it wouldnt know what hit it. Mk5 however would stand a better chance

Hmmm. I'd say a VTS because it's still very light and would still put up a competition against the Golf even with its 1.8 20v turbo lump, which is pushing out 150bhp? Or is that another model!?! smileys/smiley5.gif

I do like the Golf's but earlier today I saw the brand new Polo Gti. Well I think it was and ummm. I did like that. I love that red trim they have on the front of the bonnet.

Edit:- New Polo Gti (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/new_cars/forthcoming/polo_gti)

damo you should check out the price tag on the polo.....i dont like them nor the price lol!

the golf will be better value for money...........and it'll hold its value

and lack of common sense smileys/smiley2.gif

plus it could be a 180 1.8 T

boz
11th May 2006, 18:15
the only 180bhp mk4 gtis are the anniversary edition models with the same body kit as the R32, but had 180bhp and 18" chrome BBS alloys smileys/smiley2.gif but they go for silly money.
the mk4 GTI 1.8 20vT has 150bhp, you can tell is a turbo as the I in GTI is red, as apossed to the normal 2.0L gti

the 1.8T 20v VAG engine is as strong as an OX and can be tuned to produce silly amounts of power and torque.

im sure ive said this before,
my friend has a mk4 GTI 1.8T thats kicking out 380+bhp, its amazing.
Best mod for the money is a revo chip that takes the car from 150bhp to over 200bhp, just with a chip and fuel economy is stil great.
then, filter, full system, bigger intercooler, cams and head work, uprated turbo and a few other bits and pieces and you will be on par with my mates smileys/smiley2.gif

dont forget that the VAG 1.8T 20V is the engine of choice used in a load of cars, seat ibiza, seat leons the 180bhp, 210bhp and 225bhp models, along with the TT range 180bhp, 225bhp, skoda VRS models too. a very versatile engine smileys/smiley2.gif

Alicia... I'm sure the price tag is somewhat ridiculous. Just like the new Golf Gti is/was. I saw it this morning and thought hmmm. Also thought the same about the Golf. I'd prefer the Polo because its that little bit lighter.

Chris... This my 5th actually. No need for exaggeration (sp.) smileys/smiley17.gif

Dom had the Mk1 Green VTS. He loved it. He then sold it (for reasons I cannot remember) and bought the GTI-6. He loved that too but for different reasons. He then decided to get rid because it was too big and basically sluggish. He had so much more fun in the VTS.

That's why I'm saying go for the Mk2 VTS because I think it'll only be a matter of time before the Golf is too big and heavy and isn't as fun to drive.

But... if he chose to have a Lupo or Polo Gti. Well then that's a different story. Both cars quite light and reasonably powerful and are a lot better build quality than the French cars. But... the VTS will give both those cars a run for their money and I think the VTS will still take it with it being lighter. The +6bhp wouldn't really come into it.

it would only come into it at top speeds i think - as the polo engine seems to go on forever without any issues at all!

i dont think u could ever get bored with the golf engine there just sooooooooo much people seem to do with them! however they dont have the cool dash like i have smileys/smiley4.gif

boz - theres 2 different 180's as far as im aware - one is anniversary but theres another one too smileys/smiley5.gif and with the revo chip if u go to the vw tuners and get a full system and remap on top of that it can gain an extra 70 or something?!

nice mark 5 gti in town whos had it done - it flies!

I personally think you need a change. You have had about 10 saxos so have a go of something else smileys/smiley17.gif

My brother has a mk4 Golf GTI. It's a lovely car. So comfortable, easy to drive, has so many mod cons in there, electrical everything, a little dash computer thing but it drinks the fuel. Whereas we all know the Saxo is a little basic and rattley. You can't really compare them as such

So it depends what you want out of your car. I personally would still have my saxo over my brothers golf because I think it's more fun to drive, it's smaller, cheaper to buy and cheap to mod but if you've had lots of saxo's before and want all the mod cons that come with it, go for the Golf. Maybe it's time for a change

saxx
11th May 2006, 21:41
they only drink fuel if u have aheavy foot

but the badge on the back of the golf will get u some negative attention

Agreed! smileys/smiley20.gif

You can only keep the same model of car for so long, and mk4 golfs are just divine!! We're talking a serious amount of power increase from a sax to a golf too....You know you want to Dom!
