I do around 50-100 ab reps each day
My method is pretty typical:
Lay on back raise legs in the air then raise chin and torso. but was wondering if there are any better ways???

there are loads of different ways to work the abs out. Just doing 1
exercise isnt the best method.

Google it and read many website and workout sites and you will soon
work out what you should be doing

i lie down

hold 10k in my arms behind my head, and then put 10k on my legs, then at the same time raise the weight in my arms above my head, and then bend my legs up

its not very well described but i do about 40 of them a day

Abdominal training isnt as easy as most ppl think, there are many exercises but all are not suited to any individual, what you have to take into consideration is your core strength & work from that level upwards, is the above all you do at the moment? im sure i can advise plenty of additional exercises, adding variety to your workout! smileys/smiley14.gif

id be interested in a few more exercises, the one i do now does my core, but i wouldnt mind a few more for the lower ab muscles and core...

your "core" is your abdominal muscles... consisting of internal - external obliques, rectus abdominis, transvers abnominis mainly & a few more.

use the Swiss balls to do your abdominal curls over, remember "life is motion & balls move" - they are very funtional to use, you can do your whole work out on them if you really are looking for a functional "core"

id start off with abdominal curls - swiss ball, oblique rasies over swiss ball, pelvis tilt sat on swiss ball & lower back extensions over the swiss ball 2-3 sets 12 reps.

then move on from there - ensure your technique is perfect all the time!! Id also start pilates to compliment things....

Pilates is a unique system of postural realinement it works by lengthening & strengthening the muscles while ensureing perfect alignment at all times, using the mind to train the body, and activation of the key muscles that support your body ( the inner unit ). Pilates aim is perfection.

it can & should be applied to all training methods in my opinion, I have worked with a number of clients curing pore posture problamatic backs & lots more.

It is amazin!!

try it your you will miss out!

It can be pricey but if you find a class that has no more than 12 ppl in it its well worth the mony you pay! I wouldnt teach more than 12 ppl at a time as you need to give ateention to detail to everyone in teh class. dont waist your money if teh class is packed... smileys/smiley5.gif

its all about cardio . .ppl think the more sit ups/crunches they do. . they better chances of getting abs. . but its mainly to do with cardiovascular exercises. . look it up. . im not wrong smileys/smiley16.gif

Fat burning cardio exercise is a key factor if you want a 6pack, yes! Melting the fat away to reveal that rectus abdominis is definatly needed...

Endless sit ups are not the answer to good abdominals! They will infact possibly give you low back pain & postural problems, this is due to other more "easily facilitated" muscles kicking in & trying to assist or do a similar job to your abdominals.

Good abdoninal strength & core function doesnt always mean a 6 pack!

reading a magazine & trying the exercises is fine but do it with an instructor if you can, this will ensure good technique!!! simply reading about them & then doing it religiously isnt ideal... you dont know if your doing it correctly - Mens health is a good mag yes, but dont belive all you read in a glossy mag!! smileys/smiley14.gif

Used to buy mens healthe from time to time - pretty repetitive.

Every Summer without fail:
GET FOCKIN HUGE SIX PACK IN SIX MINUTES.

nice bit of advice but the techniques never change in there.

Thanks for the advice people!

repetition is no good for building muscle should change your routine every other month otherwise you are not forcing your muscles and they end up finding it too easy. there a few good sites too help you out. ie bodybuilding.com

the best excersise is, lay on your back, bend your legs, hands in side of your head and move left elbow to right knee then right elbow to left knee. keep alternating in a cyclying format. this is a killer

500 situps a day with dumbells behind ya head, i hold about 14kg.....thats how i do it. Also iv got this thing i do which i read somewhere, you go into the position like your doing a push up, but you just hold ur self up by ur fore arms, make sure ur elbows are almost at ur hips....badly explained by try it and u should get it.

no point doing situps everynight you overtraining, you will get better results if you did them every other night giving your stomach muscles time to recover. have three different types of ab workouts a week, better results again

If you do 500 sit ups a day i would suggest to you that your not acually using your abs as must as you think you are! especially with a 14kg weigh behind your head! You suffer from low back pain or hip problems!?

sit ups or curls are aimed towards working your muscle Rectus Abdominus ( 6 pack muscle ) you need to understand the fuction on this muscle to traing it effectivly it does more that just pull you forward you know! there are also many other muscles that assist it, internal & external obliques, Transversus Abdominis, are the main 3. Abdominal taining need to be done correctly. there is more to it than just sot ups..... thats just what i think tho....! LOL

I used to do these things, "V-sits" they were called, where you lay flat on the ground and (with or without girly ankle and wrist weights) you kinda raise your torso and your legs at the same time so you end up balanced on your bum in a V shape - I found them very effective as part of a structured plan, especially for your "rectus-abdo-thingy" that Westy mentioned...

Yates

sounds a bit like what i do Lozi, 10k weight behind head and then 10k weight on my legs, and bring them both in and up so im in the crunch position and then straight them back out again

another good one is the plank, just like a press up but rest on your elbows

its a killer

lozi_murias
7th August 2006, 19:52
mm I've done that 'plank' one too....is a bitch after a while!

The difference between my v-sits and your weighty crunches is that your weight resistance comes from, uh, weights, whereas mine comes from my own body weight if you get me....

I know a good pilates exercise that's good for your core abs *waits for brownie points for mentioning core strength ;)* You like on your back with your legs straight and together, at about a 60' to 90' angle, your arms are out to your sides to steady you. You tilt both your legs SLOWLY to the side to about 1 or 2 o'clock before bringing them back to the centre. Tilt the other way, back to the centre, etc etc.

I bet your overtraining, you wont put on muscle if you do that.

Do about 5 sets of 10 on monday, wednesday and friday, then it gives your abs time to heal

Gym: Squats

Sit ups

Get a skipping rope

Thats my advice

Another thing is you need low bodyfat for your abs to be visible, you need to build the abs then maintain a very low bodyfat if you want the "abs" look

saxovtrcrazy

i like just doing your crunchies and you should be able to feel it working just after 5- 10 basically lay on you back just like sit ups.
lift up about just less than half of a sit up crunching your abs together holding each 1 for about 4- 5 secs.

heres a pic i know it aint good cuz im a skinny fooker and need to bulk but it does work a bit

Yeh that guys pics a good example, as you can see his abs are very visible because he has a very low body fat %, im guessing around 6 or 7. WHen he bulks his abs will look as if they dissapeared, but then when he adds alot of size and cuts down to a low bodyfat again he will see his abs again except (if done properly) they will be alot bigger and stand out more, etc. Some people go for the look he has there, slim and toned. If you want that look you just need to do alot of carido really and basic workouts.
