Im a complete novice and know nothing about the whole bike test deal. I know I'd have to complete a CBT but what happens after that?
I've read various websites but need a simplified version suitable for a simple mind like mine :P :P :y::drink::drink:

Im 19 now so if I did the CBT then went and did the full test I'd be restricted to 33bhp till I was 21?

Motorbikes are fun, fast, and cheap...
I can run and insure a 200 mph superbike, for half of a 1.1 saxo. :fcuk:

Yes... I was 17 when i did mine, and restricted till i was 19... Restriction my arse, paid for the certificates, and removed the restirctions myself...not that im saying you should as it is illegal, and voids insurance. But i took the risk, now im unrestricted and ride lots of silly bikes :)

You would do the A1 test, like I did. And be restricted to 33bhp.
You can however....buy an R1...and 'get it restricted' ;) to 33BHP. All that is really is a certificate, some places will charge X amount to give you a certificate and not actually restrict the bike . Mine however, was done...not worth the risk imo.
Or once it has been done....you can get it un-restricted easily enough when restriction is lifted.. :y: or whenver you fancy ;)
EDIT : Tonto risked it...naughty boy ;)

I'm actually in the same boat, I've decided to get a bike licence but have no fucking clue as to how to go about getting one. I've Googled obviously but first hand advice from people who have done it is more valuable imo.
I'm 23..which I assume would mean no restrictions when I pass? Obviously I wouldn't buy the most powerful thing possible though..fuck that.

Ran a yammy aerox 50 at 16 (wouldnt interest you)
RS125 (tonto hates them....buy it :P) bought for £400, rebuild and resprayed myself stands at about £850 now (had a few bits tweeked), £210 to insure at 17. can ride on a CBT license. Also good on fuel and £15 for 12months tax :D They do need looking after alot though as they are very high revving 2-strokes. Unless its the newer shape but they are shite imo
RSV mille - not insured yet....but its a damn site cheaper than the saxo.

how long did it take you to learn to ride gears on the road? i am on a runner twist and go but have passed my theory. just need to find dosh for the course. i have a cbt but i done that on a twist and go. and i know i should try and do my test quick as when the weather gets warmer everyone is going to want to their test.

Its realy easy mate. I have been riding with gears offroad since about 6/7 though mate,so I had the upper hand lol.
But I have taught a mate to ride and he picked it up really easy (and he is a complete retard :y:)

Learned when i was 16 on an xjr1300
First bike, ybr 125 for a few months to get experience for my test
Then moved onto a gs500f
Then sv650s, which i will highly reccomend for a first bike!!!
Then gsxr 600
Then zx6 r
The sv was cheap to insure, about 3-400 a year, comp. Good on fuel, still burn most things off the lights, would wheelie, and do 150mph on a good day if you full lean to it!
The gsxr, aswell as the zx were too heavy for my liking, big tanks, big bums, but went like fuck! Easy to maintain with the carbs, as i had the j1 model.
Now i have a 10' r6! And couldnt be happier...ish! Lighty, sharp as fuck to steer, suspension and brakes arnt amazing but available upgrades are immense! I pay 900 for the insurance, purly because its brand new, next year when i renew it will be 350£ ish id imagine tbh.
Ive ridn a few fireblades, r1, zx10r and a super charged zzr1400.
The zzr was just pointless as you go over 1/4 throttle and it would spin in every gear and id shit myself!
The zx10 would wheelie aimlessly in all gears!
The blade, just had some immense midrange torque and pull!
The r1... Like the r6 you have to wring its neck to get it going, not so much as the 6 but still, nail is past 6k and you see nothing but sky, knee down on them are the easiest imo! As they sit an inch or two lower than other 6 or thous out there!

Learming gears, is easier said than done...wait, no its not. When someone says, down one up six...you are like wtf?!
Up or down to neutral...eh?
Sit there, kick it down, and up...you will hit neutral and laugh, kick it abit harder and get to 2nd...after about an hour you will have the general idea tbh!
But imo the test is the minimal level to ride on the road, to learn to ride, takes years. But you need to keep at it!

Excellent lol. I have heard only good things about the Gixxer's tbh, and the CBR's. I will probably in the next few weeks start to initiate the process of learning for the CBT and finding an instructor. I just want to have something fun for the weekend..I genuinely would love to have a nice bike and really enjoy the freedom and adrenalin rush it can give, without riding it like a cunt like some people do. Unlike them I want to live..

If experienced riders are telling me to stay away from power bikes like those..I'd be a retard not to listen.
I'd like to get a good first bike, something powerful enough to give me that adrenalin rush, but not something stupidly crazy that would kill me. Also, it would have to be reliable too.

Hence why I recomended a gixxer600 or a CBR600 :y: both very reliable, fast and great fun too, but not likely to bite back and kill you lol. Just be sesnsible and think before you open the throttle (never open the throttle whilest banked over for a corner...seen it done, not a nice result :()

As has been said before be careful with your first bike if its a decent one. Nothing worse than watching your pride and joy slide down the road into bits :(
A friend of mine owns a bike garage in croydon and he had a chap come in one day with a mangled R1. Basically my friend sees the mashed bike and its practically just parts. The guy asked him if he can fix it. . . my friend laughed and asked how many miles he had done. The bloke was like 4, what 4,000? no JUST 4!
Hes come out of the showroom on new rubber and nailed down the road and well ended up with some r1 parts and 10k out of pocket! lol My friend just laughed and offered him a tenner for the parts! lol
So be careful when your new to bikes. Just my advice :)

Tuing with the gsxr, you see alot of them because they are cheap fast fun, not because they are the best! Id reccomend having a slightly higher budget and getting a cbr.

The A2 test is to be taken on a bike of between 121cc and 125cc and capable of at least 62.5mph.
The A2 restricts you to bikes not exceeding 33 bhp for 2years (can be any bike you wish aslong as you have the certificate to say it is restricted and not over 33BHP). The restriction is automatically removed after 2 years to allow you to ride any bike of any power.
A2 test is for riders under 21 who are cannot do the Direct Access Scheme (DAS).
Anybody over the age of 21 can do the Direct Access Scheme (DAS) which allows them to ride any bike they wish.
This may be useful for the lads from last night :y:
