I am currently running a VTR Phase 1 engine which is well passed its sell by date! I have a Phase 2 engine and was wondering if i could use my inlets and ignition system on the phase 2 engine? are the bare blocks the same? many thanks

is it the ph2 90hp engine or the ph2 98hp engine ?
if its the latter then it will be hell for you doing the conversion as your car originally ran on the 1 plug ecu and the late mk2 vtrs came with 3 plug ecus so all the sensors are different etc.
the wiring will be hell

Also, the vtr engines early ones ie mk1 and early mk2, there single point injection, from about 2001+ there multipoint injection. Not sure if that will have anything to do with the inlet manifolds :\

ph yeah forgot about that, which made me emember the coilpacks are compeltely different, the 90hp engines use the square one with HT leads coming out of it, whereas the 98bhp engine have the sort of push in coilpack

i think you will need a new coolant sensor, think that only only sensor that different, not 100%, also your interior loom will still be mk1 so either you will need to do some splicing or change interior loom as i think there is a different amount of pins on the plug for where you plug them into each other, could be wrong as i going by the 16v conversion, would of thought it be similar :)
also if you got the full mk2 engine, just put it all in, it a better engine, as said it multi fuel injected, mk1 single

thanks very much 4 ur replies, i was going to try and use the mk1 electrics with the mk2 block so the loom would all stay the same, im doing this as a quick fix until i can afford 2 buy a new performance lump.
